DeRosa: Cubs --> Indians --> Cardinals

Miles: Cubs -->A's/Reds --> Cardinals

Theriot: Cubs --> Dodgers --> Cardinals

lol, I don't think I really comprehend this. First DeRosa, then Miles and now Theriot. Do the Cardinals secretly covet our gritty white MI's? But they can't trade for them because we're rivals so they wait until we trade them to someone else and then make their move?

I had completely forgotten DeRosa was on the Cards in 09 before this.

ESPN St. Louis was talking about this trade when it went down. Randy Karraker was excited because Theriot is one of those "Take Command" type of clubhouse guys. He can take a lot of weight off of Pujols' shoulders, etc. Made me laught quite a bit. They are also excited about his glove in the field since he is a top defensive IF at both SS and 2B and is a great hitter, 3rd behind only Jeter and Cano for most multi-hit games in the last 2 (or so) years.

Hopefully they don't mean this only in leadership terms and, instead, mean that he'll be getting some starts at first to give Pujols days off.

Theriot: "I'm finally on the right side of the Cubs-Cardinals rivalry."

Wait, what? Is that real?

You're surprised that Theriot would be a shameless suck up?

that little prick is so predictable.

Jose Vizcaino: Cubs --> every other team in MLB --> Cardinals

Miguel Cairo: Cubs --> Cardinals

Cesar Izturis: Cubs --> Pirates --> Cardinals

Tony Womack: Cubs --> Cardinals

Mark Grudzielanek: Cubs --> Cardinals

Shawon Dunston was on the Cardinals in 1999 and 2000. That means a former Cubs middle infielder has been on the Cardinals every single season since 1999. That's too bizarre to be a coincidence.

Delino DeShields as well, via Baltimore.

I thought it meant he would be spotting Pujols in the weight room.

You all do realize this means Theriot will have a career year, right?

A career year for Theriot will be an OPS of .750 while having no range at SS. I'm not worried about it.

I dunno about that. Bill James is going to be introducing a new statistic to measure and predict the jump gritty white infielders should expect to receive by joining St. Louis. I think he calls it the Pixie Dust Effect (PDE).

In his latest article, he predicts with PDE, Theriot should be expected to hit .404 OBP/.420 SLG/.824 OPS next year.

Yeah all those singles will come in handy with no one on base. And they'll be even better when he gets thrown out stealing with Pujols at the plate.

Theriot has holes in his game, but if he hits in front of Pujols, I kinda like it. Well, I don't like it...but he could be a pain in the butt and have a pretty good year.

He's short and white. No need to work any harder for the admiration of Cardinals fans.

Ugh. There's no other team in baseball, other than the Cardinals, that has a manager who is really the GM. That would be dandy if he was good at evaluating personnel, but he's not. This is shaping up to be a La Russa Wet Dream: scrappiness in right field (Jay), scrappiness up the middle (Theriot and Schumaker) and Guy Who Got On La Russa's Good Side By Playing Out of Position That One Time (Freese).

They're building the perfect 81-win team.

Can Theriot lift "a lot" of actual weight?

I dunno, Theriot's always been tops in the league in CCC (clutchity clutch clutch).

I don't know what to think. I don't have a problem if Theriot was at 2B or backing up SS and 2B but if Mozeliak gets rid of Ryan instead of Schumaker I'm going to be livid.

The organization made up their mind about dealing Ryan two months ago.

Maybe once he gets on Albert's "vitamin" regimen.

http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2010/12/cardinals-make-brendan-ryan-available.html

The Cardinals feel that Ryan Theriot is an upgrade at shortstop over incumbent Brendan Ryan. Ryan is now expendable, according to Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch: "The Cardinals have let other teams know Ryan is available, and they'll look to trade him during next week's winter meetings in Florida, if not sooner."

Theriot's grit does more than "vitamins" anyday.
