I would think if you have an unbeaten from any BCS conference, they will be in the title game barring that there is more than two.

I think Michigan St. is a very interesting situation. They don't play Ohio St. And the only challenge they have left is at Iowa. With no conference championship game, if they go undefeated they will have won the Big Ten without playing arguably its best team. The Michigan win gets weaker every week, leaving Wisconsin and potentially Iowa as its only signature wins.

I don't think you can say that those 2 wins are better than Boise's potential body of work, which includes VT, Oregon St, and Nevada. Or TCU who could have wins over Oregon St, Utah, and Air Force.

Really? VT, Oregon State and Nevada are unimpressive. I'd take the ND, UM, IA, WI, NU body of work over either of those in a heartbeat.

I also dont think it is just who were the 3 best teams that each teams play. I think the quality of the middle of the road teams that each one plays is important. To be honest Illinois is quite a bit better then the middle of the conference teams from the WAC or the Mountain West.

Mike Sherman is a [expletive] sham of a head coach. Send him back to Green Bay and give me Jim Harbaugh.

Stanford is a better job right now than A&M, plus he will be at Michigan very soon. You should make a run at Leech.

Mizzou at 16 and 18 in the new polls, which is a nice jump, but in a perfect world they deserve to be about 11 or 12.

I'm not sure how they deserve to be any higher than they are considering they have played no one very good and didn't leave Columbia until last week. Where they are is about where they should be and they'll leap deservedly up if they upset OU.

I'll get the new thread up late tonight after work when the BCS is out.

There aren't very many, if any, 1 loss teams that have a big enough scalp to have a better resume than an undefeated team with Mizzou's schedule.

Case in point:

Wins against Miami FL, @ Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Marshall, Eastern Michigan, loss @ Wisconsin

Wins against @aTm, v. Illinois, Colorado, San Diego St., Miami OH, McNeese St, no losses

Which one of these teams deserves to be ranked higher? I think it's pretty cut and dry, but yet the pollsters say the opposite.

ETA: Sagarin has Mizzou #6 with the 47th SOS.

Ohio State is usually the exception that proves the rule when it comes to being ranked ahead of people they shouldn't be. But you tell me that they should be vaulted in front of Stanford or Arizona or Florida State, all of whom are in the 12-18 range that you feel Mizzou should be jumping? All those teams have wins far better than anything the Tigers have done, and both have played substantially better teams (and each of their 1 losses are to good teams as well, although Oregon St took a hit by losing to Washington). Mizzou's best win is Illinois, who might be in the top half of the Big Ten.

The polls work themselves out. I don't think whining about them in mid-October before any of your team's meaningful games have been played has much of a point.

I'd argue that San Diego State is their best win, but it doesn't matter.

I think they're ranked fine for now. If they beat OU and Nebraska somehow, they'll get their due. If we're undefeated in a month and ranked 16th, then I'll be upset about it.

How is Wisconsin behind Ohio State in the Coach's poll. That doesn't make sense to me. I agree the polls don't matter right now but still.

It's the same argument I've hashed out before, it just so happens that my team is the one that gets shorted in this particular instance. Last post and then I'm done with it, but another illustration. Here are the ranks of team's wins using Sagarin(if for no other reason than it can rank all the teams):

Mizzou: 38, 39, 42, 47, 91, 146

Stanford: 17, 41, 45, 105, 113, loss to 1 - I haven't and don't have a problem with Stanford being in front of undefeateds

Arizona: 16, 23, 67, 87, 213, loss to 18 - I haven't had a problem with them being in front of some undefeateds either

Florida State: 27, 66, 92, 93, 113, 152, loss to 2 - They don't belong in front of the undefeateds

Iowa: 37, 55, 62,159, 223, loss to 11 - Sorry, they don't have the resume

Nebraska: 32, 43, 73, 115, 176, loss to 26 - Nope, not them either

The point is just because before the season we decided that Iowa and Nebraska and Miami(in FSU's case) were going to be awesome, they keep getting anchored in the polls even though they haven't earned nearly what other teams have. Losses to good teams do not get mitigated until we're much closer to the end of the season.

If you're not a historical power (or if you've never really been a power), you can't schedule Miami (OH), McNeese St, and SDSt and whine that you're not getting respect in the polls. You've played no one and beat them all. Congrats. Now go play a team that doesn't absolutely suck.

Oklahoma as the BCS No. 1...I guess that's cool for Missouri, but there's no way they are No. 1.

The computers have Missouri as the sixth best team in the nation behind only Oklahoma, LSU, Auburn, Michigan State and TCU.

Agreed. I thought they'd either be #3 or #4 but not #1. This just makes the Mizzou-Oklahoma game even more interesting.

After looking over OU's non-conference schedule, I'll retract my statement that they aren't No. 1.

as someone who watched those games, let's just say that if OU is No. 1, it's more of a down year in college football than we thought.

I mean, I get the argument and I see why they're No. 1 at this point, but the odds of it lasting are next to 0

It's seems too high.

Their SOS is equal with Alabama's, and better than all the ranked Big 10 teams, Nebraska, Florida State, et al. They're 11th in the BCS, and the only team in the BCS Top 15 to not be in the Top 15 of either the AP or Coaches Poll.

Yea, I think OU gets beat sometime this season too.

OU at #1 is better than two computer polls having LSU at #1. I thought computers knew that Les Miles was a complete idiot too.
