Well it just started over in Finland, Hurricanes are off to a 3-2 start against the Wild.

Here's some things to think about this year from the guy who picked the Blackhawks to win last year (and told me about it in a bar before the story ran)

I think Donald Fehr becoming the head of the NHLPA is going to be a much bigger story in the next couple of seasons. It is kind of low key now because there is still 2 yrs left on the current CBA

some guy named sergei bobrovsky started in goal for the flyers. he's 22 years old and played in russia's KHL the last couple of years. he had good numbers (save percentages of .927 and .919 the last two seasons) but had a really bad record, so apparently his team (Metallurg Novokuznetsk) sucked. we signed him as a free agent and he looked good in preseason and with leighton hurt, he got the nod over boucher.

edit - he also looks like the preacher from there will be blood

i'm probably going to splurge for NHL center ice since ice hockey is not televised very frequently - or ever - over here.

Haven't watched the whole game, but Versteeg looks pretty solid for Toronto. He was inches from scoring a beauty a minute ago. He's erratic, but so talented.

Is that available online or does your provider offer it?

I remember being in Australia several Februarys ago and seeing hockey games, including a Blackhawks/Red Wings game. They were on in bars late at night if I recall correctly.

Blue Jackets are tied with the Islanders for longest odds to win the Cup (100-1)

Go local team!

I have a feeling that the Islanders are going to be tougher then many people think...no real reason to feel this way though.

Blue Jackets, not so much of a good feeling

datsyuk still has a shot at another undeserved selke trophy [/bitter mike richards fan]

Ryan Kesler

Richards has 118 hits(20th) and 51 blocked shots(14th). He's also 50.9% successful in the faceoff circle, 26th on my list. He's 10th in Faceoff wins. Richards is a guy who I like and should have made my top ten. His 36 takeaways and 41 giveaways probably kept me from giving him the close scrutiny he deserved. He's certaintly way better defensively then guys like Zenon Konopka , Chris Neil and Tomas Plekanec who got looked at hard because they were top ten in one particular defensive category. I still submit Kesler is better this year but Richards should have been on my final list in the conclusion.

nice to see the officiating in the league is still a joke. danny briere took 2 minutes for roughing for getting punched in the face too much, then ville leino got a holding call with less than 5 minutes left for not having either arm around the player he was defending, then briere got drilled into the blues net about 100 feet behind the play without a call.

This happened...because he's Danny Briere

yzerman's boys are looking pretty good. 3-0-0 with 2 really good back to back road wins.

stamkos has to be the most underrated/underhyped player in the nhl at this point. only 2 players have had 50 goal seasons at a younger age than stamkos, and he's already got 4 goals and 2 assists in 3 games this season.

I was thinking this last night. Casual NHL fans have barely even heard of Stamkos. That's what playing for a lousy team will get you.
