i can think of a few, but here are teams with a better record of success than the phillies:

mets

braves

marlins

reds

technically the cubs should be on this list, but since they haven't won in forever i'll leave them off

cardinals

pirates

dodgers

giants

diamondbacks

yankees

red sox

blue jays

orioles

twins

tigers

white sox

a's

it depends on how you define success.

in my lifetime:

mets- 1 series in my lifetime, 2 appearances, no. used to hate them, but now they are a bigger joke than the cubs

braves- 1 title in my lifetime, more series appearances. i hated them in the 90's as well.

marlins- of course i hate the hell out of these lucky assholes

reds- nah. 1 series, 1 appearance in my life.

cardinals- hate

pirates- no, not at all. haven't had a winning season since i was in junior high.

dodgers- kinda hate. 2 series titles, 3 apparances, fairly even. plus i hate the dodgers for what they did to us in the playoffs in 2008.

giants- nah. whatever 2 appearances in my lifetime, no titles since before my dad was born.

diamondbacks- not really. but i hate them for what they did to us in 2007.

yankees- whatever, they get what they pay for.

red sox- jealous, don't really hate though. 3 appearances, 2 titles. i'll call it even, although the phillies are more [expletive] annoying because they aren't going anywhere.

blue jays- 2 series titles in 2 appearances but there's no way they're making the playoffs in the next 50 years so no. don't hate.

orioles- lol.

twins- i kind of like the twins because the sox fans hate them so much. 2 titles in 2 appearances, one appearance shy of the phillies.

tigers- 1 title and 2 appearances and the worst single season record of all-time.

white sox- no. 1 appearance and 1 title in anyone living's lifetime.

a's- i liked them because they beat the giants in the 89 series. 3 appearances and 1 title.

but i guess it's better than no appearances and no titles.

As sulley pointed out, there are many ways to define success/failure.

Consider this...... after 65 years of hardcore suckitude, the CUBS still have the 5th best overall record among MLB franchises. Meanwhile, the Phillies, who waited 97 years for their first WS title (I know, not quite as long as we've waited.) have the 27th best record, have lost more games than any sports franchise on the planet, and are ahead of only 3 expansion teams. The reason they call us the "lovable losers" is because, well......., the Phillies just aren't very lovable !!!

ah, the ol' first inning bunt after the leadoff hitter reaches first. must be the playoffs (or ryne sandberg is managing)

From watching them vs the White Sox (small sample size) Gardenhire seems to enjoy doing this.

He and the umpire pitched a no-hitter. He gave him every pitch. Basically, we had no chance.

shut up you douchebag.

looks fair to me

it was. halladay was just hitting his spots all night; there were very few gift strike calls.

i'll take my strike zone judgments from someone who didn't have a .303 OBP this season.

There may yet be hope for TBS.

I've seen more Glory Daze commercials than I have Conan commercials.

He does it ALLLLL the time. He is a really overrated manager. But he does win.

must be nice to have a hitter like granderson at the bottom of your lineup. i guess you can do that with an eleventy billion dollar payroll.

I don't wanna get flamed here. But really?

Complaining about other teams payroll is weak.

not only do i hope the reds lose in 3 games, i now hope that they do not get a hit in any of those 3 games.

That would be spectacular.

it's not so much complaining as it is an observation. how many teams have a player as good as granderson batting #8? pretty much zero, but when your payroll is $215M you should have top players at almost every position. i would prefer that baseball had a real cap like football and hockey, but such is life. teams like the twins/rays/whoever just have to try to overcome it.
