WTG HOSS! Great start so far, though Ducks are pushing them around a bit physically.

How many teams don't out-physical the Hawks? It's not like the Hawks have "bangers".

I know, and it bugs me. But some games more than others it's more obvious.

Yeah. It would be interesting to see Bickell be on a line where he could do a little more physically instead of being on the 3rd or 4th lines where they are looking for him to score. Kopecky tries, but he's more of a gnat than anything else.

Seems like tonight Kane and Toews really miss Sharp. They are just getting nothing going.

Of course as I typed that they got a few good chances.

Hawks now in 8th and 5 points behind the 4th seed we just occupied maybe 10-12 days ago.

:(

7th best record

and the only reason they're 5 points back on the 4 spot is because of 3 games in hand

looking at the schedule, i still feel good about our playoff chances, because the other teams fighting for the playoff spots all play each other constantly over the remaining games. the hawks are the only team that is done with that group.

so it's still in the hawks hands, because those teams are all guaranteed to lose games one way or another. hopefully not too many of those games go to OT.

I was gonna say that the good news is that they have games in hand over everyone ahead of them, but at the same time, i doubt any of them have a harder schedule down the stretch than us. 3 of our last 8 are against Detroit for instance. The games in hand might not mean as much. We'll see. Dallas seems to be fading. Thank God they lost tonight...if they had won, we'd be in a tie for 8th/9th in the West, and even in games.

ok, there are basically 6 teams fighting for the last 5 spots. i'm writing off calgary as done.

here's how many times each of those 6 teams plays one of the other 6

Phoenix- 2 (and 3 against SJ)

LA- 4

Anaheim- 3 (and 2 against SJ)

Dallas- 3

Nashville- 0

Hawks- 0

So the Hawks and Predators will have chances to make up points in the last couple weeks. The only question is if they can win

I think we have the second softest schedule now besides Nashville. All the other teams have to battle it out between each other and they all get the Sharks a combined 7 times or something like that.

The Detroit games will be tough. I'm sure they want nothing more than to bury the Hawks and not have to worry about seeing them in late April or May.

What would Detroit do if beating the Hawks meant the Hawks would be their 1st round opponent but if they lost to the Hawks they'd get someone else, say Dallas or the Kopitar-less Kings, instead?

Also, if they've already rapped up the 2nd seed and can't win home ice, will their hearts really be in it? Might be hard to get motivated for that last game the United Center if it won't make a difference to them.

I dont think the Wings will have 2nd seed sown up. They however are fighting a large amount of injury issues right now and may be more concerned about getting healthy then making sure they have home ice over San Jose. Also to be honest as a Wings fan I would rather play the Hawks then the Stars. No disrespect to the Hawks, but the Stars are just the type of team that I hate to play.

I don't need to remind anyone how critical these 2 games are tonight and tomorrow. While they are not against our direct competition, they are back to back road games against 2 of the top teams in the NHL. With 8 games left in the season, we will probably have a better feel for whether the Hawks are going to take a playoff spot after tomorrow night. How many points from the 2 games would you be comfortable with?

I'd honestly be happy with 2 points. Anything less would be a small dagger to our playoff hopes.

Detroit's only playing for seeding. We're playing for our lives. If we don't win 2 of 3 against Detroit down the stretch, we won't make the playoffs. Quite frankly, we wouldn't deserve to make the playoffs if we lose 2 of 3 to them.

I don't know. Detroit is still tough and 2 of the 3 are at Joe Louis. The Wings are a bit beat up and are playing for seeding, not for their playoff lives, but they would still love nothing more than to knock us out. It's probably a good thing that we are playing 2 of the 3 games as the last 2 games of the season. The chances that Detroit rests some guys before the playoff starts is good (also more likely they've clinched the 2 seed by then).

So Todd Bertuzzi's first attempt at actual physical play since the Moore incident didnt go well

I missed the first 10 minutes...what happened?
