If the Hawks win Sunday, they can't be the 8 seed.

Is the 7th seed the highest we can attain?

Why would it be? Obviously the Anaheim/LA winner will have more points. But the Hawks catch (and would win the tiebreaker) either PHX or Nashville with a regulation loss by either of them and a ROW for Chicago.

Hawks can get as high as 5th, with the following:

Chicago ROW

PHX regulation loss

Nashville regulation loss

LA/ANA does not go to OT

If the Hawks win, regardless of the LA/ANA result, the Hawks will finish ahead of the loser. The Hawks win any tiebreaker with LA, PHX or NSH, even if the Hawks win in a shootout on Sunday (they win the H2H tiebreaker between both 2 and 3 teams with them). The only team they for sure lose a tiebreaker to is Anaheim, which is why they can't finish 4th.

So basically, these are the scenarios, just for the Hawks:

1) Hawks get 2 points Sunday: 7th if PHX + NSH get points today, 6th if one of them gets points, 5th if neither get points.

2) Hawks get 1 point Sunday: 8th if ANA loses in OT/SO, 7th if the ANA/LA game ends in regulation.

3) Hawks get 0 points Sunday: 8th if DAL loses, out if DAL wins.

It sucks that the awful drubbing the Stars gave us is keeping us from clinching the playoffs already. In terms of H2H and obviously the 4 point swing.

I don't like victories being the 1st tiebreaker TBH. I think H2H should be the first tiebreaker, and goal differential being the 2nd. The Hawks have the 2nd best goal differential in the conference and could miss the playoffs which seems odd.

If H2H were the first tiebreaker, the Hawks would still be in the exact same position. Lose tiebreaker to DAL/ANA, win tiebreaker against PHX/NSH/LA.

I realize that. I'm not trying to tailor the tiebreakers to fit whats best for the Hawks. I'm just saying that I like H2H and goal differential better as tiebreakers than ROWs

I just have this feeling the Stars are not going to win in regulation tomorrow. Just a gut feeling. Minnesota is much better than Colorado, and I'm sure they wouldn't mind knocking the former Northstars out of the playoffs (if they are still alive come Sunday night).

I think the Blackhawks should be able to get tomorrow game to OT worst case. If the Hawks can get a 1-0 lead, I could easily see them holding back and trying to keep the Wings to one goal or less. Also, is Detroit fightining for 2nd seed still or are they playing for nothing? If the former, I could see the Wings and Hawks both playing very conservatively to pick up a point. It would never happen but it would be funny if the Hawks were like, lets take this to OT 0-0 and we'll let you score a goal when OT starts.

Nashville just lost, meaning that if the Hawks get 2 points tomorrow they will finish at least 6th. They'd get 5th if Phoenix gets 0 points tonight. The difference between playing Vancouver and playing Anaheim or LA or whoever

Who would you guys rather face in the 1st round should we make it? There are a lot of teams out there that want to get revenge on the Hawks for knocking them out of the playoffs.

I am assuming whoever is the 4th seed is the ideal matchup. 2nd for me would be the Wings. Reason being that the Wings seem to be struggling down the stretch (3-5-2 in last 10) and it would be a good opportunity to get the Wings monkey off our backs. Next would probably be San Jose, but only because Vancouver is just that dominant this year. I wouldnt hate playing Vancouver, because if we beat them it would probably be the greatest thing ever, and the city of Chicago should probably request that Vancouver the GM Place as proof of ownership. At the same time, Vancouver is even better than last year, and I don't want to give up that mental edge by losing this series.

But the most important thing is getting in. Phoenix is losing 1-0. This is good for 2 things. A Sharks win (or SOL) would clinch the 2 seed over the Wings, giving Detroit nothing to play for tomorrow. And if Phoenix loses and the Hawks win, we will get the 5th seed (right?)

being out of the playoffs or in the 5th seed determined in one game, against your rival.

NO PRESSURE

i cant imagine a single regular season game ever having that much importance

New York and Philly played each other last season in game 82, winner got into the playoffs, loser didn't.

It went to SO.

i know, but that game was still just for the 8 seed. the blackhawks can get the 5 seed or miss the playoffs based on the outcome of one game.

if we win and get anaheim in the first round, we'll be favorites. or we could miss the playoffs completely. that's crazy

Simplified tomorrow scenario:

2 points: 5th and vs. Anaheim

1 point: 7th and vs. San Jose

0 points + Dallas loss: 8th and vs. Vancouver

Actually, the Flyers actually ended up with the 7 seed.

Wings are locked into third...so may be playing less then regular lineup. However, they have really laid and egg down the stretch, they may want to finish with a strong game. My guess they will spread the minutes around and play less then really hard
