Stan Kasten is resigning from the Nationals. I've heard some CTL types talking about him as the type of guy the Cubs could/should hire as president of baseball ops. I don't think he's done much other than hiring Schuerholz with the Braves. But he's probably got better credentials than Crane for running a baseball team.

Was he the guy in charge of hiring Mike Rizzo as GM of the Nationals? If so, that appears to have been a really good move.

I don't blame Brenly. He's making good money to work one of the best jobs in sports. He's good at it and people like. No pressures and resentment like there would be if he were manager. Can't blame him one bit.

Not excited at all to see Bob Melvin and Don Wakamatsu popping up on the radar. They are proven as losing managers. Don't like either of them and I still think Hendry will wait on Girardi.

I see Melvin's name and I can think of nothing but that astronomically-overachieving Arizona team he managed in 2007. Makes my stomach turn.

As for Wakamatsu, Managing historically bad Seattle teams isn't going to pad anyone's resume. I would think he's due another chance somewhere else, but I agree that I don't want him managing the Cubs.

Wakamatsu managed one bad Seattle team. They grossly overachieved under him last year.

According to Muskat, while Brenly said THIS JOB isn't the right fit, he may talk to other teams.

Bruce has a blog post also, that makes it clear that Brenly would love to manage again. Some very interesting comments.

“I’ve said all along I’d love to get back on the field if I felt the situation was right. For personal and professional reasons, I just think this is not the right time for me.”

I asked Bob if there could be other situations.

“There could be," he said. "We won’t really know much more until the season’s over, but I have been in contact with some other teams.”

Bob was asked about the future situation for the Cubs. Here's his response:

“I’ve been around the game long enough to know that as dire as things can look sometimes...but on the other side, I find that as good as they can look sometimes, that’s no guarantee of what’s going to happen on the field next year. I’m not overly pessimistic about this team for next year, but I’m not overly optimistic, either."

So Brenly withdrew his name from consideration for the job. Anyone else think the only reason he did this is because he knew he didn't have a shot?

Translation: "This team sucks and I don't need the headache."

More accurate translation: Bob Brenly sucks as a manager.

and i hope everyone realizes this so that brenly stays in the booth for a long time.

if ozzie becomes the cubs manager I'll stab myself in the chest

i want ozzie just so the meatball sox fans have to choke on their rage.

ok except then we'd have a bad manager, do you really want to screw over white sox fans that much?

I wouldn't mind if another NL Central team hired him.

If by interesting you mean colossally stupid, then yes.

I always wonder if he's crazy like a fox. Saying silly [expletive] to draw the attention to himself rather than his team. Or perhaps he just enjoys the attention.
