Giving him another shot is a win-win. Either he shows he's learned something or else the Cubs get help in the Fecal League standings.

What is there to lose at this point? I know some of you will say that he's already been given more than enough chances, but if he has made some changes that have worked at Iowa why not give him one more shot with the big league team? It's not like it's going to hurt us any if he sucks.

I doubt Samardzija has just one more shot with the big league team. For better or worse, he's signed through next year.

I guess conceivably they could just let him rot in Iowa for all of 2011 but somehow that seems unlikely.

there's not any upside to it, other than increasing your draft position i guess – not anywhere he can fit himself in the rotation even if he surprises

his near-5.5 bb/9 is just a recipe for an overworked bullpen though

he's been stronger of late. Time to see what he's got for real. Better than throwing that soft tossing scrub Casey coleman out there.

Cashner would be a much better option.

Samardzija has a good ERA and K/9 but his walk rate is wretched. And that's at AAA.

what if he comes up and is respectable? Can you depend on him next year based on the small sample size?

No. Nothing Samardzija could do in the remaining small sample size would make me confident in him going into 2011.

Depend on him for what, exactly?

based on what?

The fact that he was incinerating AAA hitters before his promotion.

If only we could convince the rest of the league to play AAA players like we are.

based on what?

His straight as an arrow 99mph heater and his unhittable (read no where near the strike zone) off-speed pitches.

Are people even thinking before they're posting about how Samardzija deserves the shot first because of his decent AAA #s while Cashner had phenomenal AAA #s? I mean seriously??

How is that worse than a straight as an arrow 95 mph heater with no off-speed pitches?

4 walks and 1 strikeout, 11 baserunners in 5.2 IP

yeah that's a bad start. it's nice that he didn't give up any runs, i guess, but we all know that's a terrible way to evaluate a pitcher.
