It looks like Flaherty is starting to get hot......He's got 4 of his 6 homers over his last 6 games. I had him pretty far down on my list, since he's 24 and in A+ ball. But, if I remember correctly, he finished last season on a tear as well.

road, nice to hear cousin's report of Antigua at 95 and dominating. You're sure it was Antigua the starter who pitched 3 innings, not Jung the reliever who pitched 4, yes?

Would be great if Antigua came on after the layoff.

Cal, you already noted it, but it's really neat to see Jung kicking in. Last year he seemed pretty mediocre, and pre-all-star he didn't seem that jazzy this year either. But suddenly he's racking up K's like crazy, and he's getting a lot more interesting.

Some good news on the Dominican league front, too. Marco Hernandez is looking pretty interesting, at 6'0" he's not a little guy, and a LH-hitting SS sounds interesting too. All-star at 17 with some interesting stats. A lot of pitchers with nice numbers there, too. I wonder how many if any really will make it very far in the states?

A poster reported that Archer was at 93-94.

Speaking of the DSL Cubs - it looks like Wilson Contereras and Jose Tineo's roid suspensions are over. Tineo received one of the three biggest bonuses for teenagers signed out of Latin American in 2007 (the other two were Junior Lake and Yohan Gonzalez),

Is Archer the starter version of Marmol? High velocity, hard to hit, but with control problems.

That said, for as long as he allows just one earned run every 33 innings you won't hear any complaining from me. Unless he completely implodes sometime between now and September, I don't see anyway he doesn't make our top five and the MLB top 100 next year.

Great night for B. Jackson. Tennessee is awesome this year.

No surprises here - Brett Wallach was assigned to the Peoria Chiefs and Kyle Smit to the Tennessee Smokies.

Would have liked to have seen Wallach in Daytona. He was a college kid, and is a guy that could be ML ready fairly quickly. Of course, don't know who he would bump from that rotation.

Oh and three homers from LaHair tonight? Somebody wants Lee's job.

Its hard to trust a 28 year old "prospect", but you never know, and him and Hoffpauir might end up competing for the job in ST next year due to the thin FA market, unless of course they go after Adrian through trade in the offseason.

Don't trust runs allowed to evaluate pitchers - especially minor league pitchers. The fact that he's allowed only one run so far involves a LOT of luck. He's been very, very good. Just not *that* good.

I was thinking someone should get bumped up because Peoria already had 6 starters for 5 rotation spots (Searle, Batista, Struck, Whitenack and the piggy-backing Antigua/Jung). You could send Wallach who has been the most successful of the 7 to Daytona, Chris Rusin to Tennessee and send Jeremy Papelbon back to Tennessee's bullpen. I hope something gives when Antigua is stretched out again because Jung has shown he deserves the innings with his recent hot streak.

This is true but he doesn't have to be "that" good to make our top five. Nobody is expecting him to keep an ERA under 1 or even 2 at any level.

Yes, I wouldn't think ARcher should be that hard to make our top 5.

We always talk about the K's and the walks, and those are huge. But the guy is establishing himself as anti-HR guy. When you don't allow HR's, it's not so bad to walk guys. Given what fraction of big-league runs score via HR's (about 40% of RBI's come via HR, correct?), guys who don't allow HR's tend to be good.

Just look at FIP... 1 HR is worth about 6.5 walks.

Or if you look at run values, a HR is worth about 1.4 runs while a walk is worth about 0.3

My Cousin said Antigua is absolutely dominating ...throwing 95

Wow, either he's bumped his velocity up (which is possible...and awesome) or that gun is a bit hot.

MiLB.com made a bit of an error and combined Antigua's and Jung's numbers for a little while, making it look like Antigua went 6 scoreless innings with 11 Ks. I was beginning to wonder what the hell was happening in Beloit.

honestly, the Beloit scorer didnt notice that Jung was on the hill and not Antigua...hmmm one is Korean and right-handed the other is Dominican and left-handed. way to pay attention Beloit.

And that gun is a bit hot...

1. Peoria did not get 1st half playoff lock, and isn't likely to make playoffs 2nd half either. Correct?

And am I right that neither Peoria nor Daytona earned 1st-half playoff spot? Or Boise?

You are correct that we didn't make it in the first half. However, we are currently in the Wild card spot for the 2nd half. Quad Cities and Cedar Rapids are already qualified for the playoffs so when looking at the standings for the 2nd half just pretend they aren't there and take the next 2 teams. Which means right now Kane County is the Champion, 3 games up on us and we are the Wild Card, 1.5 games up on Clinton. So we are very much in the thick of things for the 2nd half playoff spot.
