Jay Cutler interception count: 2

I've been saying all preseason that I don't take much out of the preseason. Although the playbook is still way too vanilla, if there is a game I take anything at all from its the 3rd preseason game. And we've looked downright awful this game. Lovie has to be geting nervous for his job.

That was horrible. Jay had time to throw and everything, and just dumped it in front to the waiting DB.

About time you fools embraced reality.

I was predicting 6-10 before the preseason started.

So a lot of people have already given up on the 2010 Bears after 3 preseason games? I have my concerns too, and they did look awful tonight.

But the point remains that there is only a certain amount of stock you can put into preseason, whether good or bad. If they start off 0-3 or 0-4 and you write off the season then, that's more understandable. Or actually if they lose the opener at home against Detroit, the season could be done right there. That's a must-win game considering the schedule difficulty.

I think the problem has been that it's hard to see games on TV and not critique them, even though they mean next to nothing, and preseason does mean next to nothing.

Yes, I was convinced 2010 was going to suck before the free agent season began. Adding a DE doesn't make up for the fact that your secondary would have trouble stopping a college offense, or that your offensive line is useless in run blocking and poor in pass blocking. And we didn't have the picks to fix our biggest holes.

On the bright side, I'm pretty sure our team will stomp Grossman if we happen to face him in a game

The rumors that I've heard hinted at by a lot of Chicago sports reporters is that Lovie is probably safe after this year, even if they're bad. With the lockout possible/probable in March, they don't want to pay Lovie and another coach to not coach.

Like others, I too felt this team was bad before the preseason. The preseason performance by the starters has not helped.

The secondary is horrible, the offensive line is putrid and there are a few injury-prone players and little depth. And I said 6-10 assuming Jay Cutler and not Caleb Hanie is quarterbacking most of the season.

I originally said this team could win 12 games or lose 12 games. Doesn't look like everything is going to go right to make this a good team. But it does look like everything could go wrong. This could still be a 12-loss team, but doubtful that this could be a double digit win team anytime in the near future.

I saw that Antonio Bryant was cut by the Bengals today and for a half second I thought that maybe we could pick him up and it would be a good pickup. Then I realized that receivers are probably the 5th or 6th biggest problem on this team. I don't think adding a receiver the caliber of Bryant would make the offense all that much better.

Now that I'm watching the replay of this game, I'm not as negative about it. The o-line looked average, the offense wasted a redzone chance with trick plays (which is completely fine to do in the preseason). The front 7 look solid on defense, so I'm thinking the secondary is the main problem.

Problems by ranking:

1) Secondary

2) O-line

3) Lovie Smith

4) Recievers.

Would he even be an improvement? From everything I've read, it sounds like he's broken.

My biggest issue is was pass protection. I don't know how the O-line looked ok when Cutler was sacked 4 more times, another time the pressure forced a fumble, and Cutler threw 2 INTs which I'd have to watch again but would think at least some of that was getting rid of the ball under pressure. The Bears can move the ball...they did last year a lot. But with no pass protection and a QB like Cutler that tends to throw a couple of dumbfounding passes per game, way too many possessions end in an INT, lost fumble or a couple of sacks making it a long 3rd down conversion. I don't think the Bears running game and WRs are good enough to overcome multiple turnovers per game by the QB.

It's just really frustrating because the Bears have tried everything, signing potentially undervalued FA Olinemen, hiring one of the better oline coaches in the game, etc to improve the line. But the one thing they haven't done was commit the offseason to building the O-line which to me is the most important thing to have. Instead they decided to go with what they had in house which was awful last year, and move them around to their more natural positions and hoped that this and Tice were gonna make the Bears O-line average...I say average because I don't even think Angelo was dumb enough to think that what he built was good enough to build an above average O-line. Oh and he put even more pressure on this O-line when he hired Martz who relies on 5 step drops and perfect timing to make his offense work. You can't do that with an offensive line that is going to leave the QB scrambling multiple times per drive.
