Junior Lake with HR #8 on the season.

Anyone else joining me on the Lake in the top 5 bandwagon yet?

I hope there's more than 4 better than him.

He's either got the highest or second highest ceiling in the system. In his age 20 season, he's made incredible strides with his plate discipline. He's absolutely murdering the ball for around 130 AB's now.

In my mind, the only ones with good arguments for being higher other than this year's draftees are:

B Jackson

Vitters

HJ Lee

Archer

McNutt

J Jackson

I can't see anyone arguing that someone like Flaherty or LeMahieu are better prospects at this point. Carpenter has both injury and performance concerns.

He's been impressive of late, I'm just saying I'd hope there were better, but I should have typed 5 better, instead of 4.

It really depends on how you view production vs tools in the low minors. Lake almost certainly has the highest ceiling in the Cubs system. He just hasn't put the production together for a long enough time to trust yet on either side of the ball. But he has every tool in the book and as Tim mentioned he seems to start to be figuring it out. And he still has plenty of time to refine his game.

I have him somewhere in the 6-8 range myself, but I can see somebody ranking him in the top 5.

I really think it's time for a mid-season prospect list. Every single thread lately has been veering off into one anyways.

I'm close. But I can't commit to top 5 just yet.

If he can give us 3 years like Clement gave us, I wont complain.

He pitched the clincher game in 2003 - I'll take that every year. 8-) .

Laugh if you will, but I am beginning to once again take notice of Marquez Smith, especilly now that hes playing some 2nd. .311/.392/.491/.883 in 55 games in Iowa, plus at 25, hes young for an I Cub, whose average age seems to be in their mid 40's.

I fully expect the term "flavor of the month" to come into play here, but he has had a pretty solid minor league career overall, with a .814 OPS in 3+ years, and if he proves to be a decen 2B, maybe he can platoon with Fontenot next year if we can get rid of Theriot.

Does he have the civil war veteran look going on?

Ugh, Jackson really hit a wall this month.

It saddens me that this statement applies to both Jacksons.
