My two cents...or Less...This is exactly the problem...We have players that are used to losing and it doesn't bother them...Maybe Z was in the right for blasting his sub par play and effort.... DLee would rather play for a last place team than have a chance to be on another winning team at age 35... He should be waived before he infects Castro and Colvin anymore..

We're not a last place team – there are two teams currently behind us in the standings. The Angels are also only 6 games better than us and still 8.5 games out of first place, currently sitting in third place in their division. Going to the Angels would only put DLee in a marginally better position to make the playoffs.

Who will be available in FA this winter that also plays 1st?

Adam Dunn WAS

Lance Berkman HOU *

Wes Helms FLA

Jason Giambi COL

Paul Konerko CWS

Derrek Lee CHC

David Ortiz BOS *

Lyle Overbay TOR

Carlos Pena TB

Albert Pujols STL *

Jorge Cantu, Ty Wigginton, Brad Hawpe and Michael Cuddyer can also play first.

I'll take Pujols for $100M, Alex.

I would love to see the bidding war on Al, too bad Pujols won't be going anywhere.

Yeah, I'd offer Pujols close to whatever he wanted. No chance the Cards let him into free agency though.

If Vitters can hit enough he would play 1st...His short comings at third could clear up though

Who will be available in FA this winter that also plays 1st? The Cubs have 0 prospects that can play first now or anytime soon.

I can understand Lee not wanting to go. It's very tough psychologically to move half-way across North America for two months and then potentially move again. Also, I believe he has a young child with health problems.

I don't really know who is available via a trade or FA, but I'd be willing to bet the Cubs offer him arbitration in the off-season if he doesn't go before then.

Hendry painted the Cubs into this mess, not Lee. I still cannot believe that Hendry will get to keep his job.

Vitters cannot hit his way out of AA and now he's hurt. Why would the Cubs put any faith that he'll be playing in Chicago any time soon? That's just stupid as is the Lee is a loser stuff.

you are slitting hairs..... Cubs have no chance and the teams below us in the standings have owned us this year... Dlee's losing attitude is a cancer... He is a waist on the 40 man roster...

All your ideas stupid too...Quit your bitching, baby... Vitters is one of the top prospects we have and he might be able to win a spot next year..He was starting to heat up little and he's just 21...I would put more faith in him than in Lee..A good fall league showing and who knows... Besides, can he play third base, so far he has struggled at the position.... A move to 1st might be the answer...And hey it was just an idea...lighten up Francis

Maybe we would have won a few more games with a little more hustle... I don't think DLee missing from the line would have hurt the overall record of this team....

Just imagine how well Colvin would be playing if Derrek Lee wasn't around

Awesome.

Strange question, but does anyone know how far a trade progresses before it is proposed to a player and thus eligible to be blocked by said player? Is it like "yo, Lee, what do you think about the Angels" or is it, "Derrek, we'd like to trade you do the Angels for prospects A and B, do you approve?" Doesn't really matter, but I'm just curious.

It probably happens in several ways, depending on player and relationship with team. My guess is Jim keeps his players relatively informed along the way. But sometimes a team may dot all the i's and cross all the t's then hand it to the player to put the pressure on him to accept.

No, he just stands at first all game like a bum

He had bad numbers there this year, but he's young for the league and got some terrible BABIP luck. He was heating up when he got hurt, lending credence to the idea that he had potentially figured out AA.

The injury keeps us from knowing for sure this year, however. But again, considering how young he is, he still has ample time to develop and still be on a normal track.

It's not splitting hairs, though. You said DLee doesn't care about winning because he didn't want to go from the Cubs to the Angels and you backed it up by misrepresenting the difference in situations of the Cubs and Angels.

Both teams are within striking distance of a playoff spot if they go on a torrid pace, but neither is likely to reach the playoffs. DLee would be going from one team likely to miss the playoffs to another team likely to miss the playoffs.

Aren't they talking about the first baseman for the 2011 Chicago Cubs?

He had a good week before he got hurt. There's no credence to the idea. He had a terrible year both in the field and at the plate and luck doesn't explain anything. Hopefully he can play better next year at AA.

Anyway, that's not the point. The point is that somebody thought he'd be playing in Chicago next year.

That was my thought.

Vitters has no place in the composition of the 2011 team unless he's getting traded for somebody that will make the roster.

My hope continues to be that Hendry will find a way to pull in a AAAA 1B at the deadline with some measure of upside, so they at least have something resembling an in house option going into the offseason.

If they're talking about next year, then yeah there's no chance Vitters will or should be in Chicago next year. I thought CubinNY was saying Vitters wasn't likely to get to Chicago at any point though.

He said anytime soon, and the previous guy was specifically talking about Vitters playing 1B next year.

His .252 BABIP despite an 18% LD% is meaningless? Do you not buy into luck playing a part at any level or just in the minors?

Anyway, that's not the point. The point is that somebody thought he'd be playing in Chicago next year.

I didn't realize he meant next year. That being the case, I agree. Vitters won't and shouldn't be the first baseman for the Cubs next season.
