Another fun stat.

 

Against the other 29 MLB teams, the Pirates have been outscored 204-400. Against the Cubs, the Pirates have outscored the Cubs 46-31.

 

By using pythag formula, the Pirates are playing at a 37-125 pace against the other 29 teams, and a 109-53 pace against the Cubs. Gah.

Cubs have now gone winless in their last 11 series. They are now at a 69 win pace this year. The 2006 squad won 66 games.

 

If you think about it Lou's managerial stint with the Cubs has mirrored Dustys. Both made surprise playoff appearances their first season after losing 95+ the year before. Both actually had their best teams their second season and finishes with better records. Of course Lous was much better and made the playoffs. The next year the team played around .500 ball and the bottom fell out the next year.

My favorite part of the game was when Colvin pinch hit for Gorzelanny and Len went out of his way to say he liked the move. It was noteworthy because if Len is as intelligent as he portrays himself to be, he hasn't liked much of [expletive] anything that senile old bastard has done the last two months.

Fundamentals are learned when you're 13, and should be perfected by time you reach the majors. Guys making millions of $$ are expected to know fundamentals.

Jake, how do Pirate fans feel about embarassing the Cubs just about every game this year?

While we won the series, I'd hardly call it embarrassing.

 

And, if you look at our play coming into Chicago, I think the word relief comes into play.

Let's go ahead and get no-hit by Brad Lincoln

 

One of my biggest fears is the Cubs will be no-hit this season and 2010 will be forever remembered for it's offensive ineptitude instead of dominating pitchers (and yeah, I know the Rays have been no-hit twice this season, and 3 times in roughly a year, but they are otherwise a good team).
