It's very real when you're watching a bad team.

This team is reaching levels of bad that I never thought possible.

A Cubs fan couldn't possibly say that with a straight face.

I really dont see why its surprising that this team is bad. Granted not this bad, but even on paper, were not a great team.

Lee is looking very washed up. maybe hes waiting to explode, maybe not.

Soriano is what he is,super hot one week, then fairly worthless the next, although he seems like he could be on the verge of a hot streak.

Soto, while he'll likely never regain 2008 form is a very producive offensive catcher, but nothing out of the ordinary. certainly too good to share time with Koyie Hill.

Byrds been a very pleasant surprise, but never has been and never will be the type of player to carry a team

Colvin sure looks good so far, but we'll see.

Then theres the rest of em. Theriots bad. Bakers better than Theriot, but thats not saying much. Nadys your average bench player/spot starter.

Soriano really hasn't even had one of his infamous cold streaks this year to this point.

And weren't people saying at the beginning of the year that Soriano and Soto having rebound years was the key to this team's success? Well they've both rebounded and we're worse this year. I'm sure next year they'll be saying the same thing about Lee and Ramirez.

Well, those two bouncing back and then Aramis not missing half of the season (presuming he would produce as Aramis normally has). And assuming that Lee would have put together some reasonable approximation of being a serviceable #3 hitter.

It's depressing because if you had Lee anything even close to what he did last year plus "normal" Aramis and Soto and Soriano doing what they're doing this year plus Byrd and this team is kicking some serious ass. A lot of woulda/coulda/shoulda's, yeah, but I don't think anyone was expecting Lee and Aramis to be such non-factors.

Another absolute waste of a game. I can't even comprehend the absurdity of this team having a nearly $150 Million payroll. The Cubs have the 3rd highest payroll in baseball and are the only team in the top 12 of payroll that doesn't have a winning record.

Brenly tearing into Bradley..

Pretty funny

I don't know, seems classless to me.

Not able to watch, What did Brenly say?

He had a quick 4 or 5 pitch at bat and Brenly seemed like he was rushing to get in his digs. Len mentioned it was odd that he was getting more boos than cheers at home (Cubs fans booing) and Brenly said something to the effect of they haven't gotten to know him yet. Then said something about a Seattle restaurant with a special sandwich that costs whatever Bradley's average is at the time.

We get it Bob, you think he is a jerk. It just seems so personal with him, like he takes pleasure in calling him out. Not professional at all IMO.

Brenly's treatment of Bradley (like most of the Chicago media) has been and is ridiculous. To a lesser extent, Soriano. And some want him managing this team.

Sorianos average has dipped from the .300s to at the low point .267 sinc e his last mushroom wore off. I know AVG is a well overrated stat, but its an indicator that he must have been on a pretty cold streak in that time frame. Hed been doing a lot of whiffing at bad pitches over the past few weeks.

As for Lee and Ramirez next year, I wouldnt bet any amount of money on Lee being here next year, and if Ramirez can have a nice rebound in the second half, he'll be likely to opt out. Hes done it before.

If somebody were to tell me at the beginning of the season that Soriano and Soto would have bounceback years, Milton Bradleys budget replacement would be OPSing in the high .800s, and Tyler Colvin would have come out of nowhere to OPS in the high .900s in the first half of the season, along with tons of quality starts by the rotation, I would have thought that wed be in pretty good shape. However, I wouldnt have assumed that Lee and Ramirez would be virtually worthless in that same time frame.

I see Randy Wells' luck has gone from great to horrific in less than a year.

He's back to Earth now. Wells was a nice surprise last year but I think we knew he wasn't that good.

I never thought this particular Cubs team would be this bad.

There have been many other season where the Cubs sucked. It's a little strange to hear a Cub fan pretend like he doesn't remember '06, for example, and call what is happening right now the worst he's ever seen.

Hmm. It still doesn't feel like his cold streaks in the past. Perhaps because he is not failing in as many meaningful spots or due to the fact that so many have already called it a season that it's less magnified. Either way, Soriano seems to be headed in the right direction these past few games.

Other than an incredibly stupid baserunning error.

Over the last 28 days he has a 663 OPS, although the past week has been much better. He also started the season slowly, so he's had the slow spots, and it's still only June.

Lots of revisionist history going around it seems.
