Theriot has had some bad times, and some decent times as a Cub. He's having his worst year yet right now, and it shouldn't be a surprise. 30 year old middle infielders with sketchy career numbers don't last.

So he tries to bunt, and fails. Then strikes out after putting himself in an 0-2 hole. Why does Theriot have such a long leash?

He must have the goods on Lou and Cubs management.

It's all about the grit and being a throwback ballplayer.

It's starting to sound like the casual fan is starting to turn on Theriot too, so hopefully management will do the same.

I really wish they would have traded him this offseason.

Yea I really don't understand why Theriot has such a long leash with Lou. I mean Theriot can't even dream of having a year like Soto has had at ML level yet Theriot is penciled in daily. Itd be different if the guy was capable of putting up numbers like Lee and ARam who you basically have to leave in the lineup, but it shouldn't be hard to replace Theriots numbers or D.

He does lead the league in grit, I think.

Also, in his defense, since the club has asked him to start taking more pitches and being more selective, it is taking him longer to make outs.

i don't understand why he keeps batting leadoff. well i understand that it's happening because lou is a bad manager... you know what i'm saying.

Because the laws of physics do not allow a left-handed hitter to hit off of a left-handed pitcher. It would cause a temporal rift in the space-time continuim and we would all cease to exist. Unless of course, the left-handed hitter was carrying a flux capacitor, in which case we would probably be fine.

I can't wait to watch the all right handed hitting line-up two more times this week. I know Lou doesn't have much choice, but can't he try Fontenot once in awhile against a lefty. I mean, 0-4 from Fontenot is the same as an 0-4 from Theriot. Does Lou really think leadoff is so important that he has to keep playing Theriot against all pitchers because Lou thinks Theriot fills that role, regardless of the stats?

Leadoff has been THE obsession from the front office and managers for the better part of a decade. Other issues come and go, but they have constantly been obsessed with the concept of the true/ideal leadoff hitter, even though such a player does not really exist, or is in very short supply. If the Yankees can hit Jeter there, I see no reason why anybody has to have a real one.

Which makes it even more ridiculous that Theriot is hitting there - he has very little patience, awful baserunning despite good SB numbers, and isn't left handed.

The thing I really don't like about Theriot in the first spot is when the line-up rolls over and there are a couple of guys on base. On the flip side, that why I didn't mind Soriano batting 1st.

Back to the game...it is nice to see Wells have a good game. Maybe he was threatened with a move to the pen or back to AAA.

eh, I'm not too impressed. He's got lucky a few times like Byrd's catch in the 1st not to mention Oakland isn't that great.

Whatever, at least he's only allowed one run.
