What would you take from us to get Miles?

Miles just got called back up to replace a rookie on the bench who was just recalled. We(as in Cardinals fans) will offer you (Cubs fans) Blake Hawksworth and a bottle of Coke just for you to take Miles. What do you think?

The St. Louis Cardinals have purchased the contract of infielder Aaron Miles from Double-A Springfield, adding a veteran presence to the bench.

The 33-year-old Miles was one of the final players cut by the Reds this spring and signed a minor league contract with St. Louis on April 30. He batted .279 with 13 RBIs in 16 games.

Miles previously played with the Cardinals from 2006-08 and was a member of the World Series title team in '06. He played for the Cubs in 2009 but hit a dismal .185 in 74 games.

Miles was in uniform for Tuesday night's game against the Reds, although he wasn't in the starting lineup and manager Tony La Russa said he wouldn't start Wednesday, either.

Outfielder Allen Craig was optioned to Triple-A Memphis, one day after being recalled.

You can send him to me with a sturdy, bio-degradeable garbage bag. I'll make sure he is disposed of in the most humane, environmentally friendly way possible.

Or, how about he becomes the Cubs body guard?

In spring training of 2000, several of his teammates from the Houston Astros organization were in their hotel when two gunmen burst into their room. Miles was in the next room and the gunmen took him hostage. The police arrived before the gunmen were able to take him to their getaway car, but one gunman fled the scene. The other forced Miles back into his room where he ended up wrestling the gunman to the ground. The police entered the room and shot the gunman while Miles held him to the floor. The gunman survived his wounds, and his accomplice was later captured.

Those assclowns in STL gave Miles a STANDING O in his first AB tonight. Unreal.

So? He was a big part of the team a couple of years ago. People have good memories of him. It's not just about what kind of player he was. Fans have a lot of good memories that relate to him.

I was at the game June 4 and a Brewers player made a diving snow cone catch in the outfield. The fans applauded the effort. I had to wonder how many other stadiums would have applause for a member of the other team, even when he did make a great catch.

I'm not embarrassed in the slightest that Miles (or any returning player) gets a standing ovation. Miles was a fan favorite for a few years. A lot of the fan favorites aren't necessarily the best players.

I have no problem with Miles being back. It was a low-risk signing anyway. He had a hit tonight, anyway.

I get the feeling that Miles being atrocious with the Cubs is what the ovation was really about. I find it hard to believe that Aaron Miles could be a fan favorite.

Lots of casual Cards fans like Miles. Lots of casual Cards fans give standing ovations to former players, crappy utility MIs or no.

We also give standing ovations to the jet fly-bys for the national anthem, to our old-timer HOF types, kids that catch a foul ball, and beer guys that come out with a fresh case. I think it has something to do with the seat at Busch III.

No, he wasn't.

I didn't say he was a great player. In 2006 he was a fan favorite and an important part of the team. Fans appreciate that.

What made him an important part of the team? I can't imagine fans appreciating a .672 OPS, but I guess you guys are just really special.
