According to ESPN, Cubs SOS is 29th in MLB

The only team with a worst SOS is the Twins, just barely. Their RPI (relative power index) also has the Cubs 30th out of 30.

Does anyone else just want to ignore this season and come back recharged in 2011? I am hoping to god the Blackhawks stretch this out until mid June, then LeBron/FA talk carries me to July when the Bears head down to Bourbonais. With so much going on with Chicago's winter teams, this is the perfect season to just take off the Cubs, as there is a pretty good bridge between their previous seasons ending and the next ones starting. For those who are non-Chicago sports fans, I'm sorry. Maybe things will change, but for the first time since maybe 2002, I just have no desire to follow this team.

Eh, baseball is baseball. I love watching it more than any other sport, and even when the Cubs are bad they still pull wins out of their asses I can enjoy. If I haven't ignored a season of theirs to this point, there's really no reason to start now. I've been through a lot worse.

Yeah, you'd think some people around here were born with pennants in their mouths.

That didn't come out so well, but you should get the point. Unless you're chasing tail or something, there's no excuse for "ignoring" your team. This Cubs business is not something you can step out of when it's ugly and come running back when the playoff odds improve.

Yeah it's not ignoring on purpose or anything. It's just lack of interest. I can't explain it. I watched every game in 2006, so its not the losing that necessarily bothers me. I still watch baseball, I'm watching a White Sox-Royals game as we speak. It's just something about this team that I just don't want to follow them.

We've all suffered through teams that have been a LOT worse than this one. Even though the end result has been horrible at this point there's still a number of players I want to follow on the Cubs and want to see them do well. If someone is "not interested," hey, that's their call. I just think it's odd that someone would consider themselves a fan of a team and then just turn off wanting to follow them at all so easily simply because they're doing poorly, and especially since it's a team that more often than not has been absolutely wretched throughout most of our lives.

It's less about giving up on the team and more about not scheduling my day around the game. If it's on and I'm home, I'll watch, but unlike, say, 2007 or 2003, I'm not stopping my life to catch every inning

This isn't going to turn into a stupid "You're not a true fan unless you...." argument is it?

Not on my part lol. People can call me whatever they want. It's not like I'm hoping the team loses, and it's not like I'm completely ignoring them. I just am not having much desire to watch them this year. I'll probably regret making these comments in mid-June when they are the only thing going on for me and I suddenly find my interest rising, but right now meh. Baseball is still my favorite sport, and the Cubs are still my favorite team amongst all sports teams I follow, and by a decent margin.

Well that makes sense. This team definitely isn't worth that. I just see a difference between that and essentially willfully ignoring the season altogether, or even just for the time being.

I think it's odd too. I honestly want to care more. I just can't. Like I said, I watched every game in 2006. I was going to games in late September, as other NSBBers can attest to. I lived in New Hampshire in 2002, but I always watched a game when it was on ESPN. I never thought I'd feel this way, because I'm always big on being a fan that is with the team through thick and thin, and I still am. I just can't muster up enough interest to watch them.

I've been following the Cubs since 1986 (which obviously isn't long in the grand scheme of things) and certainly they have had plenty of bad seasons in that time frame. I think what sucks about the 2010 team is just being 2 years removed from a Cubs team that dominated the NL until October. Last season was a stumble but the team was at least still in the race entering August. So to now be pretty much one of the worst teams in the NL........it is just rough to fall that far. Granted nobody had high expectations for this season but I thought the Cubs could at least be a .500 type of team and maybe keep some false hope alive into July or August. But instead here we sit with a bad record and the tough part of the schedule hasn't even come around yet. I mean even in the Cubs worst seasons they could still beat teams like Pittsburgh.

i'm just glad i wasn't excited about the cubs before this season started. in the last 6 weeks all i've gone from is "i think they're gonna suck" to "yeah, they do suck"

i don't know why, but i don't think it was until last season that the cubs broke me

I agree with you, but I also understand while people nare more frusterated the past 2 years than in the past. Throughout my years as a Cubs fan, Ive blindly followed teams that were built to simply get by, and I accepted it. It was an organization that was interested in making money and winning took a far back seat. However, since 2003. weve had a taste of winning in our mouth, and this kind of crap isnt as acceptable as it once was. That and the fact that were working with a $140 million team now that doesnt have an excuse to suck.

I guess. I mean, who the hell thought this was actually a "$140 million team" going into the season? Just because they're paid that much doesn't mean they actually are one. There's expectations and then there's straight up denial and delusions.

it's not so much lack of interest as it is i know the game is over if the opposing team has scored its fourth run. because its either the offense can't hit or the bullpen will give up the lead in short order late in the game and then the offense can't get a hit. i think a lot of the fanbase would be a lot more calm if we were just losing because we have been unlucky. besides, i think i would have a lot more interest in the games if they were 9-8 contests every game instead of these low scoring affairs or the cubs offense not showing up affairs.

it's too bad i have already committed some cash to the cubs-seattle series. 2500 miles is a long way to drive to watch your team play out the string.

i think i'm going to treat this baseball season in the interim like i treated the 08-09 colorado avalanche season- my active following of the team will be directly proportional to the .500 mark. unfortunately i wasn't watching much hockey at the end of that season.

I'm pretty sure the Cubs were like 22-31 or something in 2007 before eventually making a run into the playoffs, but the division was horrible that year so I don't expect that to happen again. I just assume keep losing until we're a good 12-15 games back so we can completely forget about playoffs early (although it appears that most already have) and we can watch simply for prospects. I want to see what guys like Cashner, B. Jackson, Vitters, and J. Jackson can do at the big league level. 2006 was a horrible year but once I accepted the season was over, it was fun in a way to watch the prospects, if you could call them that (our farm system was horrible then).

The suck that is this season hasn't really hit me yet because of Orlando's playoff run, but I'm sure once that's over it will be pretty bad until NFL Preseason starts in August. I wish I was a Blackhawks fan so I could enjoy what is happening now, but I chose the TB Lightning who have been absolutely worthless since their Cup in 04.

I like how people are like "I can't stand watching the Cubs and their mediocrity, I just have to make it to July so I can follow every word of training camp of the Bears, surely they won't be mediocre"

It's not ignorance. Some folks take this Cubs [expletive] way too seriously, but they're forgetting it's entertainment. A diversion. For those of us with real problems, having to rehash the same arguments ad infinitum that we have for the past four years about the FO and their incompetence gets pretty old. I want to enjoy Cubs baseball, not get pissed all the time and argue the multitude of reasons why Hendry should've been unemployed for years now.

When a new regime is in power, I guarantee the posts, hits, etc. will increase. A lot of us are sick and tired of repeating ourselves. If anyone should be actively rooting for Hendry/Lou et al.'s departure, it's guys like Tim and Al Yellon. Catapult this FO and watch the interest soar.

I had planned back in march to travel to see a game at Wrigley. Had the money all set aside and then this season happened.

Last week I had to have part of my central AC replaced. Cost $$$$. Well there went the trip money. Meh. I really don't feel much regret.

Our local college team is on it's way through the collegiate playoffs. They may not win it all. But I don't care. It's been fun, the guys still care and work their butts off. When this is over, the local minor league team fires up.

My advice: find some close by baseball to watch. The beer is cheaper.

Yeah, that pretty much sums it up. I still follow them, but I'm less emotionally invested. Unless they go on some sick run.
