What a great thread. It's nice to see that most of the regular posters were opposed to Lou even before he was hired and that the spazzes who wanted him were invariably of the "he'll bring passion and fire and be the spark that these guys need!" type. Oh, and he'll hold players accountable for sucking. HUZZAH!!!

We need that kind of manager now! Lou Piniella looks lethargic and lets his players get away with all sorts of crap!!!

I say we drag Earl Weaver out of retirement. He'll show this team how it's done!

wouldn't it be nice IF (and it sure seems that way) this team is going no where that this organization do what you're supposed to do and sell players that are coming off the books? Is Lilly on his last year or is next year his last year? I think trying to get some good young players for Lily and Lee would be the proper thing to do. Trade what ever half year rentals you have to teams who want the help. However it would help if Lee actually started hitting again to increase his trade value.

I just don't want to see this team buying, do you? I'm not saying we should be in rebuild mode, but however see if you can get something decent for someone coming off the books next year anyway.

Damn, I miss Scott GF now that I remember him. Did he ever come back after the nightmare of the 2006 season?

Scott GF was the fun kind of insane.

On the other end of the crazy spectrum - little Mizzou cameo at the end of that thread.

banned, I believe. or was that Cynosure? or both?

Whenever someone posts a 4 year old thread, I always skim through it praying I didn't say anything dumb in it (ha ha ha).

Best ScottGF quote was the "who the hell is Joe Maddon?" one....yeah, that nobody sure has run the Rays into the ground

Guessing that Scott GF was a poster during the 2006 season who insisted we could rebound from about 20 games under .500 and somehow back into the playoffs. Am I close?

no he was the general manager of the chicago white stockings in 1912

WELL NOW I'M REALLY CONFUSED

Pretty sure he had a roid-rage-type meltdown that he was banned for.

Yeah, since there was no entity known as the Chicago White Stockings after 1889 !!

who was the poster that freaked out and started saying really weird things about somebody (illiniguy?) posting pictures of his son/daughter?

That was me. My bad.

Speaking of people who have disappeared, whatever happened to mlpeel?

It's one thing for small market, low-payroll teams to be terrible. For the team with the highest payroll in the league to perform at this level just puts an enormous spotlight on management. When your payroll is $150 million and you're relying on Carlos Silva and Tom Gorzelanny (I know they've been serviceable, but don't let that trick you) as cornerstones of the rotation, and when you exacerbate what is already perhaps the most ineffecient budgeting of payroll in sports history by putting your most highly-paid starter (with a career ERA+ of 125) in the role of setup man YOU need to be held accountable when the team fails. The plan was poor, the execution has been poor and the attempts to fix the team have been laughable. Do the right thing and step down. This is shameful.

I want both of them gone. Ricketts would not tolerate this kind of [expletive] at Incapital.

Maybe I didn't understand him, or maybe it wasn't him, but someone made fun of me and someone else for having our kids in our sigs. I thought it was him that did, but maybe it was him that was also made fun of.

Ever since Hendry gutted this team after the their last playoff run, the Cubs have never been the same.

Wait, what? Gutted how? Trading DeRosa, which was a great move?
