I'm not sure why Cards fans are so depressed, the little pest was actually about league average when he was wearing that uniform.

He was league average in 2008. In 2006 and 2007 he was so gd awful that I kept a bucket beside the TV so I had something to throw up in every time he rolled over on a pitch. I have never despised one of my favorite team's players more than him. BAHHHHHHHH.

And even better news! La Russa's going to hit the pitcher eighth tonight! We're a Troy Glaus batslam away from reliving 2008!

2008? If having to watch your third baseman put up an .855 OPS with 27 homers in the midst of an 86 win season is your definition of unbearably bad baseball, I don't feel that sorry for you.

Cardinal fans just don't get it. Boo-hoo we put together a crap team, our ace got hurt, and they still managed to win 86 games. Oh the horror.

You all have a point, but that season was kind of forgettable and it wound up producing four more unwanted years of Kyle Lohse.

In all seriousness, the signing of Miles doesn't kill the team. It hurts me to say that. But I think it's extremely unnecessary because he doesn't give the team anything that Ruben Gotay or Tyler Greene can't provide (and I can't stand Greene).

The real hysterics will come when La Russa regularly starts Schumaker, Miles and Lopez on the infield. I will fully support Brad Penny dropkicking La Russa and Mozeliak for their stupidity.

Eh, he probably won't even get back to the big leagues.

I don't know how Aaron Miles continues to get work. All I can figure is that he's blackmailing some folks. That and quite a few people in MLB still don't understand how to properly evaluate players. The fluke of '08 aside, Miles isn't even at replacement level.

Best hitter in baseball, arguably best top two pitchers in the NL ... not feeling sorry for the Cards at all.

Miles probably won't even make it out of the minors.

As good as Carpenter and Wainwright are, I'd definitely prefer Lincecum and Halladay.

LaRussa seems to be infatuated with Miles, so I wouldn't be so sure that Miles won't make it out of the minors.

Present company(Silva/Dempster) obviously excluded.

You're right. Through 1/8th of the season, Silva/Dempster were wrongly excluded. Luckily, the Cardinals have a second tandem, Penny/Garcia who are doing better than either of those first two sets. Can everyone keep it up?! Could the MLB see *five* starting pitchers toss a sub-1.0 era this year!?

Back onto the thread train: Wow, I truly hope to never see Aaron Miles fight off a 86mph fastball for a weak bloop over the second baseman again. Blech.

EephusWithAloe is right. Miles has entered the exclusive club of Mike Gallego, Walt Weiss and Craig Paquette: bad players who endear themselves to La Russa and get a lifetime pass on his roster. I remember a game in either '07 or '08 when he made three boneheaded plays at shortstop that contributed to a loss. La Russa was quick to remind reporters after the game that it wasn't Miles' fault because that young man competes as hard as anyone else in the game.

You can't expect La Russa to throw his "player-coach" under the bus.

What are you whining about? Jim Hendry is still paying him to play for the Cardinals.

I thought the A's picked up the remainder of his salary.

Point being, Hendry was the one who gave him two more guaranteed years in the bigs. That someone else was stupid enough to pick up any of that contract doesn't excuse the original stupidity of handing him the 2 year deal.

Playing AAA for the Cardinals, flipping burgers at Burger King, or just picking his nose in public for a living doesn't really matter, he's still under contract, and Miles can smile while he does whatever he decides to do, because Jim Hendry decided to reward him so generously for being sorta not bad one year when he played for the Cardinals.
