Now no need for Marmol in the 9th, hopefully he doesn't come back out

Why? He hasn't worked a whole ton recently and we're in the middle of a 19-game stretch w/out an off day. Plus Lilly is coming back w/ a pitch count tomorrow. Marmol looks to be on tonight, I have no doubt he can mow through the bottom of this order fairly quickly. No reason to waste another pitcher that we may need tomorrow.

Eh, with a 7 run lead you can toss one guy out there and just let them finish it. It's good work for a bullpen that desperately needs more experience because it gives the pitcher a ton of room to make some mistakes.

This is true, too. Like I said earlier, I wasn't in love with bringing marmol in, in the first place. But now that he's in just let him finish it out....so long as he doesnt start walking people and drive up an unnecessary pitch count. :x

I'd say that's all the reason not to pitch our best and only reliable (I guess Zambrano counts now) relief pitcher with a 7 run lead in the 9th

I still don't understand the talk of Lilly being on a strict pitch count. He threw 88 pitches in his rehab start, there is no reason he cant go 95-100 with relative ease, but Im done trying to figure out wtf Lou is doing

There you go. Game over. Marmol didn't work TOO hard, so he can pitch tomorrow if need-be. So everyone can relax a bit.

And damn, Dempsters looking for real, shutting down the hottest offense in baseball. This isnt the Reds or Astros.

Looking like re-signing Dempster was the right call, after all.

I'd say that's all the reason not to pitch our best and only reliable (I guess Zambrano counts now) relief pitcher with a 7 run lead in the 9th

Zambrano hasn't been a relief pitcher in 8 years. No, he does not count as a reliable relief pitcher.

With Lilly being activated, someone, probably between Berg, Samardjzjia, and Gray is going to Iowa. This would have been a good time to give one of them a chance to prove himself.

Wait, are you saying that that in any way putting out the guy they know will go back down would have been a good idea? Guh?

Would've kept the major league bullpen fresh.

Screw that. They could have spared a single guy to go out there and handle a 7-run lead. At some point soon Lou is going to have to figure out how to get the kids some pitching time in these blowouts.

What Im saying is if they havnt fully made the decision yet, they could have sent one of them out to see how they look. Idealy Samardzjia would be gone without question, but I get the feeling that he'll live to blow another game or 20 while Berg is sent packing, even though Berg would be my 3rd choice. Actually 4th choice behind Grabow, but he isnt going anywhere.

I'd still rather have a AAA bound Samardzija in there in the 9th over Marmol

Marmol is a guy who probably needs regular work to keep from hitting the backstop for 8 straight pitches. While I'm not sure if both were necessary, would you rather Marmol had pitched in neither Wednesday or Friday and now been on 5 days rest going into today?
