I will likely have Oneri on with me either tonight or for the day game tomorrow (10:30 start). We chatted a little bit behind the cage yesterday during BP, mostly about the start Tennessee is having since he just came from there. And about some of the former Chiefs in Daytona and EST. I'll let you all know later during BP if it will happen tonight or tomorrow.

Also - Josh Lansford is on Kane County as they come in tonight. Still listed as a pitcher. There were some rumors in spring that he was going to move back to 3rd for Oakland. Will be interesting to see him on the mound with not just Oneri but also Mark Riggins in Peoria for this series...

Actually, looks like Carpenter got the surprise start for Tennessee today. 3 innings, 2 hits, 1 ER, 1BB, 1 K. Papelbon then came in and got knocked around.

Starlin 2-3 with a double and his first HR of the year. AVG near .400...Campana with 2 hits including a 3B, and his AVG is over .400...good start for him as well.

Fun ending to the Tennessee game today.

Carolina Bottom 9th

* Pitcher Change: Jake Muyco replaces Marco Carrillo, batting 9th.

* Eric Eymann pops out to second baseman Ryan Flaherty.

* Michael Griffin singles on a soft line drive to center fielder Tony Campana.

* Chris Denove singles on a soft fly ball to right fielder Brandon Guyer. Michael Griffin to 2nd.

* Offensive Substitution: Pinch hitter Yonder Alonso replaces Jerry Gil.

* Yonder Alonso singles on a sharp line drive to right fielder Brandon Guyer. Michael Griffin out at home on the throw, right fielder Brandon Guyer to catcher Steve Clevenger. Chris Denove to 3rd on the throw.

* Kris Negron lines out to shortstop Starlin Castro.

Also, Aaron Harang's brother is one ugly man.

With Theriot struggling, my guess is the Cubs are already debating as to when to bring Castro up. The deadline was yesterday as for when the extra year of team control was. So while he would still be a super 2, if he were to be brought up really soon, we'd at least have the extra year of control anyway, albeit with 4 years of arbitration instead of 3. Same goes for Cashner obviously, who'd I'd say is the same boat right now, with our bullpen woes.....

Heres the thing though, do you really think the Cubs would bench Theriot? Because moving him to 2nd base right now makes zero sense as that platoon has been pretty damn good. I think the only way the Cubs bring up Castro is if the 2nd base platoon starts sucking, because Theriot is still a media darling, and Id be shocked if the Cubs would actually bench him, and moving him to 2nd right now can't be justified.

Yeah, Theriot likely has to hit the DL before we see Castro. If Castro keeps murdering the ball though things might change. I don't want to see the 2nd base platoon messed with and if Castro is up he needs to be playing everyday. Theriot just ruins everything.

I'm not sure honestly.......I think it depends on how much longer this slide continues. If we look up and are 12-18 or something like that, I definitely CAN see it happening. I guess I'd envision a Castro/Cashner same day callup, to try to re-energize the team. Like they tried to do with the Murton/Greenberg callup (that was supposed to be Murton/Pie)......

In a perfect world, a team's SS goes down with an injury and we can pawn off Theriot to them. If not, I'm guessing that Lou would try to be creative and find some PT for Theriot somewhere. Although I agree completely that he'd be downgrading 2B at the moment, if he tried to insert him there......

I gotta wonder though, if he's STILL the Cubs "teacher pet" personally. After ruining Hendry's arbitration record, it's conceivable to me that he's lost his "scrappy, big hearted, gets the most out of his talent" luster that the Cubs used to love so much.

Ryan Theriot should in no way block Starlin getting here if Starlin's ready. Either trade him or sit his butt on the bench. That said I don't think that replacing Theriot is gonna solve this team's problems.

He shouldn't, but he probably will.

In the end it might be a Ramirez injury that brings Castro up. Then they'd start Baker at third and still have Theriot/Fontenot platoon at 2B.

let's remember that the guy just turned 20, currently has questionable secondary skills (walks/power) and makes too many errors. he's an excellent prospect but this is no sure thing that he should be in the majors right now.

cabrera had a bad first inning for daytona after two very good starts to open the year - he allowed 5 hits and 6 runs, though only 3 were earned (junior lake made a pair of errors)

He did recover to throw 3 scoreless innings. Brett Jackson has a triple. Vitters is 0/3 with 2 Ks.

Antigua got roughed up in the 4th after 3 quiet innings and displayed uncharacteristic wildness. Final line: 3.2 IP, 4 H, 3 ER, 5 BB, 6 K.
