From my point of view late in the second, the first was a trip (but sold well), the second was a dive and should have been called as such.

the trip was caused by the high stick though.

Ehh, looked like the other way around to me. Trip first, followed by SJ player flailing like he was shot, causing the high stick.

I dont have the game recorded so I cant go back and look at it...I may be blinded by homerism, but that is not how I remember it

My recollection is the same as yours.

I saw trip, fall, high stick to face, in that order. Watched with a Penguins fan who had same opinion.

I missed the first penalty, but the second one definitely looked like a dive.

I actually think I feel better about Detroit's chances after watching a lot of game 1. It was a decent performance considering they just finished a 7 game series 2 days before.

is this the first time in NHL history that a 6 seed (boston) has had home ice in the second round?

No, in the 05-06 playoffs the top 4 seeds in the West all went out in the first round.

Man I wish the Blackhawks played in the East and somehow got the matchups Pittsburgh had. Instead of Nashville, Vancouver, Detroit/San Jose, imagine Ottawa, Montreal, Philly/Boston. Geez.

i guess i dont know wtf i'm talking about. when the warriors beat the mavs as the 8 seed a few years ago, i thought i remember that being the first 8 seed to win in eith the nba or nhl. now that i look that up, it appears they weren't even the first nba team to do it

the nuggets were the first, and the knicks made the finals as an 8 seed.

I think the Warriors were the first 8-seed to beat a 1-seed in the NBA in a best-of-seven series. The other two times it was done they were best-of-five in the first round.

In 1991 and 1993 as the #1, the Hawks were ousted by the #4 from within their division. Which is roughly the same as a modern 1/8 matchup.

Did a quick Wikipedia search and came up with this.

3 times as the "1" seed, the Hawks lost to the "4" seed.

In those days, you only played your division until the conference finals.

1986, actual conference match up, 2 vs. 8

1991, actual conference match up, 1 vs. 7

1993, actual conference match up, 1 vs. 8

I vaguely recall the 1991 series, and fully recall the 1993 upset, but never realized the circumstances fully.

That was Mutumbo's Nuggets over the...Sonics was it? Or Suns? One of the two....

Back in the days when I actually really liked the NBA.

Edmonton almost won it all as an 8 seed in 06.
