What a terrible line from the Tribune.

Fins typically help Sharks move forward, but there was Niemi stopping momentum by snuffing a San Jose power play from his back with 4 minutes

You know he was planning that one all along.

I saw that too and had the same thought. He's been holding onto that one for awhile.

Heh...I thought the same thing reading that article this morning. David Haugh has spent too much time around the likes of Rick Morrisey (before he left) and Steve Rosenbloom.

If it meant the Blackhawks would win Game 2 against the Sharks, I would go back in time and make sure Deloris Peoples falls in love with someone else, Back to the Future style, thus erasing Michael Jordan from history.

Easy there. I sort of fell out of love with the Bulls after Jordan left and the NBA changed (I know that sounds curmudgeonly), but Jordan made my childhood awesome.

Yeah man, watch out. You went a little overboard there. Why don't you take the next couple of plays off. It would be hard for me to choose anything over the Michael Jordan experience.

I've been a Cubs-Bears fan all my life, but the first sports team I was obsessed with was the MJ Bulls. It really prompted an addiction to my sports teams. I can't imagine anything topping that.

Here's a random question for Hawks fans who are also Bulls fans. A friend asked me this and I did not hesitate in my answer. Which would you rather have happen, the Hawks win the Stanley Cup or the Bulls sign LeBron. You can't put a price on championships, without a doubt I'd take the Cup, even though signing LeBron would give me more long term enjoyment.

I'd take the Cup without even wasting a second of thought on it. The Bulls have 6 championships in my lifetime. I want to see the Hawks bring the Cup back to Chicago. Besides, if the Bulls don't get LBJ they are other players they can sign that can bring them back to a championship caliber team.

I was thinking about that yesterday as I was at that graduation party and really did nothing but sit in the basement and watch the Hawks game. Fortunately, and surprisingly, about half of the people there did the exact same thing.

It reminded me of my birthday parties when I was a kid. It's in early June, and my mom would also just have family and friends over for pizza because the Bulls were always playing deep in the playoffs at that point and all I really wanted to do on my birthday was watch the game. Seems like more than once Jordan gave me the gift of smacking down the Knicks.

Rosenbloom is simply horrible. He's the king of meaningless banter packaged up to sound like knowledgeable debate. He never says anything of substance, ever. Admittedly I've only really heard him on his Saturday morning show on the Score, but he consistently throws stuff out there that is nothing more than voodoo opinion with nothing behind it.

His trib articles are as bad or worse than his radio appearances.

Then how do you like the line my friend used for the Duke student newspaper to preview the Duke vs. Virginia basketball game:

http://dukechronicle.com/article/duke-prepares-face-mapp-uva

When ACC schools look at a map of Durham, many unsuccessfully attempt to solve the mystery of winning inside Cameron Indoor Stadium. Unfortunately for No. 1 Duke, Virginia finally has both a Majestic Mapp and, though no Sherlock, a quite capable Watson.

Trying way too hard. "I have this kinda cool idea and I'm going to shoehorn it into a bad sentence no matter what!"

I'd really hate to lose Sharp, but he's probably the one of the tradeables that you can definitely get a good return for.

I am not against trading Sharp, but that scenerio would be the last resort to me. I understand the Hawks two important FA to re-sign, Hammer and Niemi, and I hope the Hawks can move enough salary to re-sign both. I think we will see the Hawks pick up alot of draft picks this offseason.

It's not just resigning those guys, it's being able to field a team at all.

Right now, the Blackhawks have 15 guys under contract for next season:

Hossa, Sharp, Kane, Byfuglien, Versteeg, Sharp, Toews, Bolland, Kopecky, Brouwer, Campbell, Seabrook, Sopel, Keith, Huet.

Those 15 guys combined put them right at the cap for next season. So you have to clear about $4 million in space just to be able to fill out a roster with 6 or 7 more league minimum guys. If you want to think about keeping guys like Hjarlmarsson, Ladd or Niemi, you have to clear even more.

Now, I don't think those guys will be *that* expensive, because teams in the NHL are very reluctant to commit money to RFAs, so I don't think you'll be forced to match any big offer sheets. They'll try as hard as they can to move Huet and Sopel, but I don't see how they can do it, so I think both of those guys are likely to be bought out and that should get you enough space to *just* squeeze in under the cap.

(If Wirtz is willing to pay for it, you can waive Huet and keep him down in Rockford where he is still getting paid but doesn't count against the cap. The problems with this are that it doesn't make you look real good with players around the league, and you still might be running afoul of the infamous "tagging" rule that came up when we tried to sign all our guys to extensions this offseason. Tagging rule says you can't be over the next season's cap either.)

So we better win this thing this year.

Well, I definitely want them to win it this year.

But I don't think they'll be going anywhere. Worst case scenario, they lose two key pieces like Byfuglien and Versteeg.

You've still got 5 of your 6 best forwards (Toews, Kane, Hossa, Sharp, Bolland) and your entire defense. And you've got a couple of NHL-ready prospects ready to step in. This is the same organization that got Versteeg in the fifth round, Byfuglien in the 8th round, Brouwer in the 7th round, Burish in the 9th round. They'll just keep churning out NHL-ready players because the front office is second-to-none right now.

If not for the HUGE overpay on Huet, or Campbell, or having to overpay for some guys after the RFA/UFA debacle, they'd be in better shape. That part is really frustrating.

I'm beginning to think you just never, ever, ever pay for goaltending in the NHL. They are like relief pitchers: Whether luck or streakiness, they just aren't consistent enough to make me feel like the 10th best goalie is any different from the 35th best goalie.

Point of correction: The Hawks got Versteeg from Boston (along with a condtional pick) for Brandon Bochenski.

But isn't that what Haugh did?
