I thought Versteeg deserved that game winner. He played pretty well tonight.

Let's go get one in Vancouver.

lol, is that sarcasm? He played better in the third but he was flat out atrocious in the first two periods. Him and Keith were easily the worst players on the ice, I thought. And of course Eager, but that goes without saying.

Where there's a will, there's a way with this team.

props to dex for calling at after the second.

if it was luongo standing on his head i would have felt differently, but he looked really vulnerable all night. it was only a matter of time before we buried one. we were outskating them pretty heavily since about 5 minutes in

figures that versteeg ends up being the hero

Isn't Keith one of the best defenseman in the league?

This sport confuses me.

He was named a Norris Trophy finalist, which is given to the top all around defenseman in the league (meaning offense included), but in my opinion that was given on reputation and his offensive contributions heavily help him there. He was great earlier in the year, but has been borderline awful the second half of the year especially after the Olympic break.

Borderline awful for his ability level or borderline awful period? I would find it hard to believe it was the latter.

Then again, I still don't get how the puck ends up over the glass so much. Fun sport to watch though

Without question the Hawks dominated this game from 3/4 of 2nd period on, if they were able to finish they'd had 5+ goals.

A little of both. Maybe people are being hard on him because they expect so much more, but I don't see very many defensemen out there turning the puck over so badly in their own zone. And so often.

That was awesome. Niemi made some really nice saves and was solid in the last 50 minutes or so. Power play was weak but penalty kill was outstanding. Hossa can't get many opportunities but I thought he played really well. Kane was quiet.

By the way, what percentage of Buff's open shots end up on goal?

10%? If that?

I know it's not a conventional approach, but playing with five d-men really helped the Hawks tonight. Buff is a bit of a liability on the back end, and as Hawkeye noted, he might as well not have a stick when he's in the offensive zone because he never gets the puck anywhere near the net. Up front he was very good in the corners and setting up Kane/Toews. On the other hand, you can't put Hendry back in there. So I like this hybrid approach for now. Use Buff on defense a little to limit the minutes of the d-men a little, but keep him in front of Luongo.

Hossa was fantastic in the third, shortly before the Versteeg goal poke checks the puck away at center leading to another Sharp chance. On the PK, takes the puck away nearly scores and leads to another scoring chance, even every one's favorite whipping boy Keith made some good plays in the 3rd.

They are saying on some Canucks boards that this is the first time this season that the Canucks lost in regulation when coming into the 3rd period with the lead..

CBC kept harping on that stat after the game. Good stuff.

his defense took an enormous step back this year, especially in the second half. he started making bad turnovers at a ridiculous rate and it never really stopped. i dont know if its a mental thing at this point or what, but its bad.

Just got back, HELL YEAH!

My last two games have been the Nashville game 5 and this one. I don't think I can handle another. That said, they are 3-0 at home with me there, and 0-2 without me.

Patience and optimism are a must, along with playing with a sense of urgency. I'm betting we will see a much better Hawks teams now that get out of Chicago and play in Vancouver for a couple of games. Sometimes getting away from home is just the ticket.

But like most, I really hope in Game 3 the Hawks come out and put the Canucks on their heels and kick their Canadian asses.

promising: the fact that this team has shown multiple times in the playoffs that they can get off the mat when it looks like they're done. when they were down 2-1 and getting outplayed by the preds, they looked done. when they were down and shorthanded late in game 5, it looked like they were done. tonight early in the first, it REALLY looked like they were done.

i dont think you can really count them out anymore. they can look atrocious and then suddenly turn it on and dominate.

What a game. Finally woke up after the first five minutes.

Niemi was absolutely huge a few times when it was 2-1.

After Steeg's goal Luongo laid on the ice like he had just been shot. Love it.

Luongo is one of the most hilarious players to watch in all of sports when he gets beat. He definitely wears it on his sleeve.

Pretty clear what needs to happen.

Hope you have a passport Gary

Did anyone catch this quote by Kane after Game 1?

Instead, the Blackhawks inexplicably took the ice resembling the same lackadaisical team that Kane admitted after Saturday's loss, "thought it was going to be an easier series.''

Are you serious? I'm assuming they didn't treat Game 1 like that despite the result, but if they are honestly thinking that before the series starts, that's mind boggling.

Hopefully he was probably just rationalizing getting beat badly because if you don't know Vancouver is better than Nashville then you are kind of dumb.
