My dad flew down to Atlanta this morning and ended up meeting and spending the flight talking to Todd Ricketts.

That's awesome. I would have figured that Ricketts would have his own private aircraft, though.

Granted, it was Todd as opposed to Tom, but my dad asked about that and Ricketts said they just charter planes if they need a "private" one.

TBS hasn't shown Braves games in 3 years.

They gave them up after buying a piece of the playoff rights.

Are we going to get blacked out of the ESPN feed in Chicago, leaving me stuck with watching a crappy standard def feed of WCIU on DirecTV?

I'm not even sure when DirecTV got rid of WCIU-HD... but it sucks.

My friends in S. Bend are telling me they're getting blacked out of Cardinals/Reds, which means I'm exceptionally likely to get blacked out of the Cubs. Pat and Ron it is then.

Can't you get them via antenna?

I wish Congress would look into the criminal blackout rules in MLB. They should be like the NFL. If you are in the area directly around the team's base then you get blacked out if they don't sell out but people in completely different states 10-15 hours away are not blacked out.

All NFL games are broadcast by major networks. Not by local broadcasts. MLB blackouts are trying to manage national vs local broadcasts...something the NFL doesn't have to deal with.

There's obviously issues with MLB blackout rules, but saying "make them like the NFL" is impossible.

The NFL makes its money via national broadcast deals.

MLB's money comes from regional cable stations, which need leverage over local cable providers to convince them to pick up the channel. Blackouts are a key part of that.

Andres Blanco is starting at 2B for the Rangers and already has a first inning error.

There were a bunch of people here that thought Blanco was a good one. We traded him for a reason.

Posters here got mad at me for posting the disappointing stats of Blanco after he got traded.

It would be a nice investment, as WCIU isn't going anywhere anytime soon. As a bonus, WGN's HD broadcasts would look better OTA.

I understand the logic, but are they really? I mean there are still far more games that aren't broadcast nationally that should be more than enough to make the providers feel inclined to pick up the regional stations.

I suppose there's a small amount of people that would be satisfied with just seeing the national games if they could, but would complain if they got neither (the ones the national networks show and all of the ones the regional station shows)... but I can't imagine that group of people to be very large....

To put that convoluted mess I just typed out more simply... I, like I think most sports fans, would still bitch like crazy if my provider only showed me the ESPN/FOX/TBS games and I had to miss out on all of the CSN games.
