From that show, the Prime 9 top moments in Cubs' history (you'll need to scroll down a bit to get that specific video).

9. Rick Monday rescues American flag.

8. Milt Pappas' no-hitter and almost perfect game.

7. Kerry Wood's 20-strikeout game (should have been higher IMO).

6. Ryne Sandberg's two game-tying HRs off Bruce Sutter.

5. Greg Maddux's 300th career win.

4. Sammy Sosa's 62nd HR in 1998.

3. Gabby Hartnett's "Homer in the Gloamin.'.

2. Ernie Banks' 500th HR.

1. Division clinching win in 1984.

Maddux win does not matter.

Game 5 win over Atlanta, first playoff series win in franchise history, should be in its place

I know 1908 was a long time ago. But it did happen.

Agreed. Maddux was a Brave for most of his career, so 300 is rather meaningless in such a storied franchise.

They didn't have playoffs then, just the World Series.

It was a playoff series.

This seems like debating semantics. It was a postseason series win, but the term "playoffs" wasn't used prior to the beginning of divisional play in 1969.

And I do agree about Maddux, since most of his wins were as a Brave. Nice for him to get the win as a Cub, yes. One of the nine best moments in Cubs history, no.

Yes. That playoff series win means a ton more than Maddux winning 300.

And by that logic, it makes his point disingenuous. The Yankees didn't win a playoffs series until 1976.

I don't think Maddux's 300th win "doesn't matter." I'm not saying it should be on this type of top 10 list (I don't think it should be), but he got just shy of half of those 300 wins with the Cubs.

Actually, strike that. I completely forgot that he hit 300 in 2004. For some reason I thought it wasn't until 2006. He ended up having 133 total wins for the Cubs, but obviously a number of those came after 300.

Tiebreaker game?

Kind of big deal, but all it did was clinch a wild card. Had they not been in the playoffs in 84 and 89 that could be there, and maybe it's bigger than the Rick Monday thing, but all in all it's not nearly as big as most of that list plus the series win over Atlanta.

It's not disingenuous at all. I'm not trying to pull something over on anybody. What an asinine thing to say.

It is extremely disingenuous. You trump up "no playoffs series wins" when by your reasoning, they didn't exist for the fist 90 plus years of the franchise.

I'd rank it higher than I would for most other years largely because of everything that happened that year (the home run race, Wood's 20-strikeout game and ROY award, the deaths of Harry Caray and Jack Brickhouse). It was a special year, and I consider making the playoffs that year (even as a wild card) to be more meaningful than it would in other years.

totally agree on the Maddux win. It had to have been the worst outing for a 300th win, and it really wasn't a big deal in the real of Cub history.

I'd put the Sandberg game much higher than Maddux getting #300.

It has no place on this list, and I know that in the grand scheme of things it was just a typical regular season game in the middle of the year, but I'll never forget the Aramis walk-off against the Brewers in '07 that helped spark a mid-season comeback trail to win the division. That memory will never go away

Barrett's grand slam against the Cardinals as one of the few bright spots of the 2006 season.
