Pretty sure that glove wiggle pre-dates Maddux' hire by a couple years.

I think it was during his second go-round as a player for us.

Ohhh I gotcha. Didn't even think about his involvement with the staff as a player.

I'm pretty sure the glove waggle didn't come about until Dempster went to the rotation which was after Maddux was gone.

You would be right. He started it before the 2008 season when he returned to the rotation.

i'm pretty sure i was for the bradley/silva trade 100%, for the record

I actually e-mailed the trade suggestion to Hendry.

Silva is questionable for his start tomorrow because of his calf (I think they should push him back a few days and give him over the break to rest it). Originally the plan was to start Atkins tomorrow if Silva can't go, but that's no longer an option since he pitched in relief last night. Somebody would be called up for a spot start if necessary. My speculation is Samardzija. Both he and Diamond would be able to pitch on normal rest tomorrow since they started the double header games on Tuesday. Since Samardzija is on the 40-man roster and Diamond isn't I think Samardz would be the more likely call-up for a spot start.

Wow, was I wrong about SIlva. He is still benefiting from a bit of good luck and I was advocating Gorzelanny taking his rotation spot (who is pitching about as well). I would have wagered a significant amount of money back in April that his ERA would be over 4

If you came up to me at the beginning of the season and asked me if I thought Carlos Silva's ERA had a better chance at being under 4.00 or over 6.00, I'd probably go with the latter, and the odds would probably agree with me.

He's been great for us. Too bad his terrible track record still hurts his trade value. He's technically only owed $10M through the end of next season to whoever has him if I'm reading Cot's correctly ($4M rest of this year, $6M next year), which for a guy who is putting up these numbers is very reasonable, but I doubt GM's around the league trust this performance. I'm sure we couldn't get anything of real value for him without having to eat more salary
