The NCAA isn't going to kill a cash cow program no matter how long ago major violations were.

Does their current status actually affect NCAA revenue? Deals are in place and contracts are signed years in advance, do you think they'd suffer much without them?

NO chance Kentucky actually gets the death penalty. It's been about 20 years since the last major violations in basketball. Postseason ban and scholarship reductions I could see, but not the death penalty.

didn't michigan get hit with major violations forcing sneakypower to rip all his ray jackson posters off the wall?

the amount of pissed-off drunken hillbillies with rifles roaming the interstate looking for cityfolk would cost tons of money, though.

Yeah.

Maybe somebody fills the vacuum but it'll probably be a program like Ohio State, Texas, or Florida where basketball is a mere diversion. You start knocking off programs like Kentucky, KU, UNC, etc. and you're killing your economic base when it comes to TV.

calipari isn't cheating though, it's all just a huge coincidence.

Poor Cal can't catch a break

"And yet another connection to coach Cal go figure

The 6-foot-10 center left Oregon and signed with a professional team in Israel earlier this month despite having two years of eligibility remaining. The Register-Guard is reporting the exit was precipitated by an investigation into allegations that Dunigan's eligibility had been compromised by extra benefits provided to him in violation of NCAA rules. Dunigan was a top 30 national prospect in the Class of 2008. He was recruited to Oregon from Chicago by Kenny Payne, who is now an assistant for John Calipari at Kentucky."

Why does this bad luck follow John wherever he goes?

Oregon is in a bit of trouble there. It's not just Dunigan...at least 2 other guys and up to 7 other current and former players might be involved.

How bad of a shape is your program in if you have to end up vacating a season that was so bad it got the coach fired just on merit?

Is this the NCAA actually starting to go after WWW?

Wow. Some of the ignorance on this board is stifling.

Just some of it?

Some instances of ignorance are tolerable, but other instances are so categorically absurd that it leaves me agape.

More on Bruce Pearl.

Apparently, those self-imposed sanctions (no off-campus visits to recruits for a year) don't start until the 24th, so Pearl and his assistants are going all out this week to visit every recruit they can and do damage control.

Positive: Chasson Randle is visiting Illinois for Midnight Madness.

Negative: Mike Shaw doesn't have a clue where he wants to go to college. This has got to be the most overblown recruitment I've seen in a while. At this point I'm not sure Shaw is even worth the trouble. If he picks Illinois great. If not enjoy the Big East.

mike irvin is a piece of [expletive] and tries to steer fire players away from illinois because weber won't pay for talent, which is why mycheal henry changed aau teams, and probably why jabari parker and tommy hamilton don't play for them anymore, either.

if shaw is looking for payment, illinois is not the place for him.

Agreed. I've wanted Mike Shaw since I first read about him and saw his highlights, but in no way do we need to start paying for talent. If he would rather go to DePaul than come to Illinois with the talent we will have around him at that point then so be it.
