this poll has better movies, so save your angst.

There were 10 winners (2000-2009) in the last decade, but which movie was the best of the best?

What a Sad list. Maybe 3 of those movies will be remembered in 15 years. Look at the list from the 90's and tell me that film quality hasnt gone down

Driving Miss Daisy

Dances with Wolves

Silence of the Lambs

Unforgiven

Schindler's List

Forrest Gump

Bravehart

Titanic

Shakespeare in Love (But Really Saving Private Ryan)

All of these movies are arguably better than most, if not all, of the films of the '00. Obviously '99 got the wrong movie and a couple of others have some flaws but overall the only winner from the '00 that stands against these is LOTR and maybe NCFOM (not convinced. Not even the Coen Brothers best from the decade - 'O Brother was better).

Silence of the Lambs simply is not a great film. It's not bad, but it's pretty ridiculous and cartoon-y.

Hell, I'd describe Forrest Gump the same way.

Wow, another great opinion. Absolutely nothing worthwhile stated other than simply bashing something without justifying it. Seriously, do you ever explain your reasoning on anything or is it simply that you don't like much and just like to be a negative nellie?

I mean seriously. Nothing says cartoon than fava beans

I said why I don't think they belong on the list in terms of arguing how the films in the 90's were so much better. To me both films are ridiculously over the top and basically little more than silly cartoons in their respective genres. Both are entertaining and, like I said, I don't think they're bad films, but I don't see how they prove that movies were better in the 90's. One relies on an absurd, comic book-esque super villain who's just an excuse for Hopkins to chew the scenery like someone starving to death and the other has the emotional depth of a Hallmark Card. Of course a ton of people are going to love movies like that. It doesn't actually make them great.

Unclench and stop expecting people to agree with you, you freak. You really think everyone is going to agree when you basically say something like how Driving Miss Daisy is "arguably better than most, if not all, of the films of the '00."

Actually I expect people to offer something more then the above. But at least I don't embarrass myself like you so often do and have done in this thread. Why are you so Angry? Do you need a hug?

The worst thing about Silence of the Lambs is Jodie Foster. People got out of their way to rave about her as an actress, but she's so wooden in that movie

This is getting creepy.

I'm also not sure how I "embarassed" myself in this thread simply because I don't agree with your declaration that all of the movies that won Best Picture in the 90's are better than the ones that did in the 00's.

I also don't see how the list of 90's winners proves movies were better than in the 00's..

Well usually when a bully resorts to name calling it is clear that they are no longer angry at the person, more angry at themselves. Its OK to be angry at yourself. Most people here don't like you either

Not sure why I'm posting 6 months after the last post but....

I'll side with 00's movies being weaker than the 90's ones. I think Gladiator and Beautiful Mind are woefully overrated. (Not to pick on Russell Crowe) I think The Departed is overated as well. I haven't seen Crash but the general consensus seems to be that it was a pretty weak winner.

I picked ROTK narrowly over NCFOM - primarily because I think it the scope in which it (really all three) was done was astounding. It very easily could have been a complete train wreck. It certainly wasn't perfect but I think it was an astonishing achievement.

I was torn between lord of the rings and the departed.

Went with departed, being that I'll leave it on if I come across it on the tube most of the time. Rings has some parts that are great, but I don't know that it keeps mynattention for the full viewing.
