who the hell is Jeff Kennard?

Someone who won't make Tennessee

Posted

I'm actually envious of the average fan. Everytime the Cubs lose my day is ruined, whenever UK loses in b-ball my week is ruined. Even though i realize if the cubs lose 62 games it was the best season I have ever witnessed i still live and die on every win and loss. Sometimes I wish i was just an "average" fan.

I don't consider myself an "average" fan by any means. But my days of living and dying with each win/loss are over.

I live and die with my teams' wins and losses but I'm usually able to get over it within 5 minutes now.

I was much worse 2 years ago as most here would attest to. My mood can be altered by wins/losses, but like you it usually lasts like 5 minutes or so. When I was like 20, people couldnt be around me when my teams lost. Pretty sad thinking about it in retrospect.

For me it's all happened since the 08 playoff collapse. Also being around the game much more often has helped, but the collapse is really what did it. I just decided it wasn't worth it to be that involved in the win/loss outcome anymore.

I wonder if that is similar to my change because it happened right around that time. I thought part of it is just growing up a bit. As you get older, time goes a little faster, you live longer and realize that whatever, the end of the season isn't the end of the world. As much as it sucks, another is coming your way in a few months. You start to become passionate/wrapped up in other things in life like work/career, family, etc. and sports aren't as much of an emotional outlet as they used to be. My mom tells me stories that my dad used to be as crazy as I was about the 4 Chicago teams that matter. Nowadays I call him if the Bears are on primetime (he lives in New Hampshire) to remind him about it. The other day he said "Hey that "Toes" guy from the Hawks is playing pretty well for Canada huh?"

Considering he's giving up HRs to guys wearing no. 83, nobody.

He's 29, a former 40th round pick, and he was once traded for Jose Molina, says Wikipedia.

He's a guy who has hung around the minors so long it might be neat to see him get a cup of coffee someday.

Alrighty. I think it's officially that time when I don't care about this game anymore. Time to go outside and enjoy this beautiful weather while it lasts.

Ok, but when it's literally true that I could do what he just did, that doesn't seem likely

This is kind of random but I can't find The Show thread. I am playing 09 The Show and playing road to the show. It's my 3rd season (2011) and I am in spring training playing the Red Sox. Look at the lineup they've assembled in this game:

Ellsbury, CF

Pedroia, 2B

Holliday, LF

Ortiz, DH

Mauer, C

Youkilis, 1B

J. Guillen, RF

Lowell, 3B

Rollins, SS

It'd have to be one of those "last-second injury, double-header tomorrow, only need them on the roster for one day so let's not waste anyone good's time" sort of deals.

Jones scoring is frustrating because you saw one thing that happens every so often (Soriano [expletive] up the play) yet the average Cubs fan will act like happens almost every game, followed up by something all the damn time (Theriot having the arm strength of a dying child) that the average Cubs fan acts like doesn't exist.

exactly. Which is why I hate "average" sports fans.

That doesn't make you a diehard fan, that makes you unable to control your emotions at all/unable to put things perspective. It's not something to be proud of.

It makes me really sad I never made the majors. I could be terrible at my job and still make a very comfortable living.
