Does this mean that Silva has the inside track on the fifth starter job?

The schedule on cubs.com shows this as a split-squad game, but it doesn't show another game. Tomorrow is definitely split, at the White Sox (again on WGN) and vs. the Dodgers at Mesa.

Do they ever take just half a squad to a game and leave the rest in camp and call it "split squad"?

I haven't heard of that happening, but I can't say that I know for sure it doesn't. Since this is a home game, though, it doesn't make sense to me. I'm guessing it was just an error on cubs.com. Tomorrow is split and next Saturday is split; it may just be a case of the split squad symbol being shown on the schedule for today by mistake.

Hes definitely getting the first crack to prove himself. Hard to blame them. With the money hes getting, you have to at least give him the chance before making him baseballs highest paid mop up man.

The White Sox have a split squad game today. Im pretty sure if the split-squad symbol is after the team name, that means that they are facing a team that has the split squad. That's why next Saturday's game against the White Sox has a split-squad symbol before and after the team name, since the Cubs and White Sox both have a split squad game.
