Here's a debate starter:

Do any Pac-10 teams deserve at-large bids?

Just looking at their raw numbers (record, RPI, SOS), Cal might, but they don't have any good wins. Lunardi has ASU stealling an at-large, FWIW.

If both Cal and ASU make the championship in the Pac Ten tournament and it's a close game I could see the loser getting an at large bid. I guess a case could be made for Washington, if they make the championship (by beating ASU) and lose a close game to Cal.

Cal is probably in. Good wins are Washington, Arizona St. x2, and Murray St. Only 2 really terrible losses in Oregon State and UCLA, and 4 of their 9 losses are to probable top 3 seeds. In short, their profile is awful but I can't find enough teams to put over them. Washington and ASU (in that order) are just outside for me.

The only team with really decent OOC wins is USC, which is ineligible for the postseason and finished .500 in league play. If Cal makes the conference tournament finals, then maybe I see them and the winner getting in, otherwise I think it's a one-bid year for the Pac-10.

Also, Old Dominion, Siena, Wofford and St. Mary's all get auto bids tonight, and Gonzaga goes to the consideration board automatically (and this one may actually stick around a while).

Washington beat A&M

I meant wins as in more than one. Washington got A&M, Cal got Murray State, ASU got SDSU.

I've now received 8 entries (me makes 9) to this point. Still have about 22 hours to get them in if you're interested.

North Texas beat Troy in the Sun Belt final, sending North Texas to the auto bid group and Troy (again, likely briefly) to the consideration board.

Note: You have 12 hours to send me lists if you wish to participate.

Oakland wins the Summit League to grab the last bid of the night.

I have a total of 9 entries now (+ me = 10), anyone else, you have 8 hours. To this point, it looks as if we have 26 at-large locks and 38 teams in consideration from anywhere between 8 and 15 bids depending how multi-bid conferences shake out.

I'm gonna go ahead and say I've never been less impressed by a team that led by 29 points at one point. Seton Hall looked like garbage.

Do I take this to mean that you don't have the Hall in if they beat ND tomorrow?

Because I don't know if I would, either.

3 - Pare down the bubble - PM me your bottom 8 teams in order to remove from the bubble.

Also, I will be updating the first post shortly with one-line "nitty gritty" reports on all the teams on the board, like I did for the current auto bids.
Posted

Also, let the discussion begin as to who should be in, who shouldn't be on the board, and who should be a #1 seed.

EDIT: I'll start: Duke should be a lock for a 1 seed, more than even Kentucky.

Posted
I think Kansas, Kentucky, and Syracuse are definite #1's. The fourth is up for debate, IMO. I think West Virginia deserves some consideration, along with Duke
Posted

I think Kentucky better not lose to a crappy SEC team in their tourney if they want to keep the 1 seed.

I think those low major at larges need to get off the list. Connecticut and Charlotte too.

Posted
Lipscomb??? Am I reading that right?

Automatically placed there due to them winning the regular season conference title but not the tournament.

Posted

I think Kansas and Syracuse are locks for #1 seeds. If Kentucky loses early and two of West Virginia, Ohio State, and Purdue were to win their conference tournament, I could see them getting dropped to the two line. Kentucky's best win is Vanderbilt and Tennessee. Their schedule was awful.

(I can't include Duke)

Wichita State and William and Mary need to get off too.
