Interesting move for him.

1-4 is now Wang, Marquis, Lannan, Olsen. Obviously not good but better than before. Nats might have been good enough to get out of last place had they been in a different division than the NL East. I can't see them finishing ahead of the Phillies, Mets, Braves or Marlins.

The got an outside chance to finish ahead of the Braves and/or Mets. The Braves offense is worse (and relies on an aging/injury prone Chipper and McCann who is a catcher and not going to be playing more than 140 games), along with a talented, but what I think is a questionable rotation. Lowe is a year older and isn't more than a #3, Hudson is entering his first full season after TJS, Jurjens is going in for a MRI today (they say it's not a big deal, but you never know), and they will likely be careful with Hanson and he won't throw more than 170ish innings. The Mets had injury problems everywhere last year and while they should be healthier this year all their core players had injuries and there is no guarantee they return to their old selfs, also the fact that after Johan their rotation is absolute [expletive]. It's still not likely the Nats get out of the cellar, but it's possible if they get some breaks.

Wang was awful last year, why so confident he'll be better than any of the trash the Nats ran out there last year, let alone those 3?

Between the majors and minors last season, Hanson threw over 190 innings. I think the only way he throws only 170 is if he is consistently hitting high pitch counts early in games or if he missed time due to injury.

Alright, I just looked at his major league stats and he was around 120 IP in MLB. Forgot he came up midseason. He should easily be good for 220 and make 30+ starts. I think he will be their best pitcher this year.

It won't shock me to see Strasburg make their opening day roster......

He probably has the talent to, but I think they want to delay his FA years a bit and wait until May (or whenever it is) so he achieves super 2 status.

I do think they'll be careful with him simply due to his age, but they'll mainly let his pitch counts dictate how long he stays in a game (provided he's not getting shelled, of course). I would probably put him a little over 200 innings, assuming he doesn't suffer an injury or significant decline in performance.

He has to spend 10 days in the minors in order to push back FA. I think he will follow a path similar to what the Cubs did with Prior, making stops at High A, AA and then a few appearances at AAA.

I could see them keeping him in the minors in order to limit his innings and calling him up after they've "sold high" on Marquis or Wang at the trade deadline.

A rotation of Strasburg, Wang, Jordan Zimmermann, Marquis and Lannan can be competitive in the NL East in 2011. This looks like the last year the Nationals will be a punchline.

Are those supposed to be in a particular order?

I like a lot of the moves they've made the last few years. They didn't [expletive] up the Strasburg signing and they've lured some mid-level FA's to the team. Too bad they couldn't land Orlando Hudson.

The fact that he has a history of being good...not ace good but good, the fact that he was injured last year, and the fact that he's making the switch from AL to NL. I know part of Wang's struggles from mid-2008 to now were a release point issue, but it's possible his shoulder injury was what was causing this. Am I going to look at the 4 seasons that he had an ERA of 4.07 or lower, or the 9 starts before surgery last year when his ERA was awful? You are right though, he might not bounce back. But assuming he does, he's definitely going to be better than last year's rotation members on the Nats.
