I have only one thought on this

=D> =D> =D>

No, it's actually ridiculous. Ban them from baseball? If you ban McGwire, you'd have to ban hundreds of others.

Good point. Because baseball has never banned anyone for cheating or breaking the law.

That's silly. How are you going to ban all the steroid users? Are you going to make the lists public? And those weren't even comprehensive tests. Are you going mass ban? Or are you just going to pick out the prominent ones? Can you imagine the circus? And that's not even touching the fact that when steroid use was at it's height, it wasn't even illegal in the sport.

This isn't Joe Jackson or Pete Rose here. It's not nearly that simple.

I agree it is nowhere near as cut and dry and I"m not necessarily saying they should be banned from baseball...although it is an interesting topic imo. My cheers were more for the idea that I found it very refreshing that an ex-player is coming out this strongly against these marquee players in this era. Very different from a glad he finally told the 'truth' he deserves to be in the hall etc type angle

Where are you seeing all of these people (outside of maybe some diehard Cardinals fans) clamoring for him to be in the Hall?

I always think tantrums like this ring hollow from players like Clark. He'll get all pissy and rant about the ones who have been busted or admitted to something but God forbid he say anything about any of the players from when he played who were using a variety of PED's. It's just lame and someone looking for attention. I don't look at any player from the last 40 years who goes off like this as someone doing something "good" because they're ultimately culpable and not above being suspect themselves. It's very telling that so many in the game keeps trying to keep the focus on very specific players and a very specific period in time.

I made the mistake of watching some ESPN this week and I've learned I'm friends with some very stupid baseball fans. I should know better

Agreed 100% that is means nothing.

I just thought it was a breath of fresh air from what I've been hearing from the news/coworkers etc. The article was just a fun read to me

this sentence, i think, is the most interesting:

"[McGwire's] own manager never knew that [Jose] Canseco and McGwire and anybody else ever had taken steroids? Trust me, from [a former player], I have a lot of insight into who did what and when but I'm not even going to talk about it. It really doesn't matter."

you're not going to talk about other steroid users, but you feel ok mouthing off about mcgwire? if steroid users like big mac make him throw up, why didn't he say anything during his playing days about other players taking steroids?

aside: jack clark's 1987 season is beyond ridiculous. i'd pray to multiple gods to have a cub put up those types of numbers.

Exactly. Or why doesn't he at least say something now to help settle his poor stomach?

Jack Clark is just a bitter old greaseball who's jealous that McGwire is rich and famous and has the job he wants.

Come on, look at the guy.

Every time one of these old timers opens is maw it's pretty much "boo hoo, I'm pissed that Superstar X of today makes more in a week than I ever made in a year."

Shut your pie hole

He's also one of the worst things to happen to the FSMW postgame show. Clark is unable to say anything without sounding bitter. I cannot stand him.

pretty wild the hawk won MVP over him despite lower SLG and over 100 fewer BB

I'm glad he did.

I understand the bitterness. You take Jack Clark's career, or someone like Steve Garvey or Ron Cey, add steroids, and you've got Hall of Fame numbers. You've got a couple more All-Star games. You've got two or three more years of playing, which back then would have been a couple million dollars, maybe. We all know at the very least Canseco was using as of the late 80's. There's no reason why Clark couldn't have started using about the same time, too and prolonged his career a bit. But he didn't. And he feels like a chump.

I was surprized by Clark stating what all of his ilk are thinking. I'm sure they all would have made a deal with the Devil to do what Mac did.

But Mac's choice of "confession" was so much BS as to be an insult to all of us. I'm quite OK with Clark and anyone else from that era that states his opinion.

U should have stayed in hiding McGwire, and LaRussa: I hope a former A's or Card player comes out on your blissfully "ignorant" ass.
