You highly underestimate the athletics and academics of Texas A&M. I realize that they are the tops in each category at the moment, but we aren't far behind in either area.

fair point. i didn't realize that aTm's athletics were as good top-to-bottom as they were, but i did know that aTm has a solid reputation in academics and research. texas is a clear #1 but aTm should also hold a good amount of sway.

if the sec wants aTm then they should bolt immediately. if that pisses people off in big xii country, so be it.

article suggests that texas, texas tech, OU, and okie st are likely to the pac 10 and aTm to the SEC. this would give each conference an odd number of teams (pac 10 would have 15, sec would have 13). they'd probably want to get to an even number, so who would the pac 10 go after? and what about the sec?

@chipbrownob is reporting that Texas has decided to save the Big 12. Certainly possible, though the Big 12 didn't know this earlier today

Joe Schad heard from 4 sources inside the Big 12 while Chip Brown heard from his usual source in the Texas athletic department. There's a decent chance it plays out that way, but I wouldn't believe anything just yet.

Schad also said that Utah has a better shot than Kansas for that 16th spot in the Pac-10.

If A&M goes to the SEC and texas, tceh, OU, and OSU go to the Pac-10, it appears that the next Pac-10 target will be Kansas to give them an even 16. Possibly Utah.

My sources say Texas is committed to coming to the table with the 10 remaining B12 schools to see if there's consensus for the Beebe plan.

Chip Brown really needs to stop using words like "committed."

utah would be a pretty good choice - there are somewhere around 2 million people in the SLC metro area and pretty much everyone in utah cheers for the utes if they don't go for BYU. that would be really bad for the mountain west though... utah and BYU are really the anchors of that conference.

Don't blame Chip. The Texas AD tells him what to say.

At that time, the governor was a Baylor grad and the lieutenant governor was a Baylor law grad. The governor now is an Aggie.

Doesn't matter. It's in the best interest of the state of Texas to keep Texas and aTm playing each other.

Where does it say that we have to be in the same conference to play each other?

It's not going to say it anywhere, but that's what they want. If the Texas government wants it bad enough, it'll happen.

I'd have thought the string would have worn out by now.

Orange County Register says Pac 10 officials will offer the 16th spot to KU, not Utah.

I think Utah makes sense if they only expand to 12.

If they expand to 16, KU makes way more sense. Better school, more marketable national brand, closer to the schools in its division, a much larger AD budget.

Utah has the population advantage and a better football team, but they're hardly a football brand name.

That would make things interesting because my friend on the KBOR says that they will not let KU/KSU split should the conference dissolve. Who knows, but we'll see. Would definitely make things worse for KSU if it happened.

I've held out on my free trial on the NU Rivals board up until yesterday.

Well guys, they said no public forum. The Rock seems private enough to me.

The Big Ten believes they are still alive and that the A&M to the SEC deal helps its chances.

He means the Big Ten believes they're still alive for Texas.

To the Missouri guys here, are you actively rooting for the Big 12 to stay together with 12 teams? It seems like that setup would be doomed for failure in a couple of years, but it would at least buy them some time to figure out what to do when it hits the fan again.

Of course, the short-term payoff of splitting the Nebraska and Colorado penalty money would be nice.

For someone in Michigan, you sure seem to know a lot about the Texas legislature.

So if Texas decides to "save" the B12, do they go out and shop for two new teams? If so, a north and a south? Houston? Memphis?

I was born & raised in the Chicago suburbs. And thank you for complimenting me on my Cubs knowledge.

I can't believe what I am hearing, but all of a sudden there is a lot of chatter that A&M will in fact stay in the Big 12. I will be extremely pissed if this is true.

You wouldn't be the only one.

Awesome! I'll say that I lived my whole life in Kansas and know plenty of people connected with the Big 12 right now. Here's my "prediction" as to where this is heading.

The Big 12 was never as dead as others were sure that it was. They're really close to getting through this.

I know that negotiations are ongoing with the 10 schools to enter a new contract. As of this morning ALL 10 schools have signed a confidentiality agreement in hopes of preventing further leaks. Nobody will know anything further for certain until it's either announced that the conference is surviving, or is dead. Anything you hear from now on, from Chip, from ESPN (who is always a day or 2 behind), or from anyone is complete speculation. My money is on the 10 teams coming out of this united as a Big 12 (10). I'll eat crow if I'm wrong but my sources inside the Big 12 are telling me this.

From what I'm being told, it's going to originally stay at 10 teams, with no North/South divisions and a 9 game conference schedule in Football. They'll look to add schools in the future.

So right now the big 12 has ten teams and the big 10 has twelve.

Awesome.

Nah, I more or less hope the Big 12 burns at this point.

Also, saw this earlier. Like all this stuff I don't know how true it is, but man I sure hope it is.

The latest information, which was relayed to PowerMizzou.com late last night is that the Aggies may have told the SEC they would like Missouri to be included in that league's expansion as well.
