Bah, this wouldn't have even come close to getting $60 out of my pocket anyway. This was going to be the great fight of our age?

Sad, sad state of affairs. Boxing has turned to crap.

It would've been, hands down, the biggest fight between the two best fighters since the Leonard/Hearns/Hagler/Duran era. The winner goes down as a top 5-10 greatest pound-for-pound of all time. I don't see what's sad about that. You put this fight 30+ years ago and you've got literally half the country following it.

I still think this fight happens somehow. Maybe I'm just stubborn.

These guys really excite you the way Leonard/Hearns/Hagler did?

I'm amazed by that comparison. I'd pay to see those guys in their prime.

Pac, yeah. Floyd is pretty boring, technically amazing, and plays a good villain. I mean, they don't excite me like Arturo Gatti and Mickey Ward killing each other or anything but you've got to take their skills and place in history into account as well.

I don't know. I've seen them both fight. I'd definitely watch, but not shell out $60 bucks for PPV. Maybe catch the replay. Floyd is to me exactly as you say. Technically really good, but I never get excited by his fights. Pac has put on some great fights, but I can't get to where he's as exciting to me as a Leonard was, for example.

And keep in mind that this is now the exact best that boxing could possibly offer. Back in those days there were exciting fighters crawling all over the divisions.

Annnndddd now I come to find out Berto pulled out of the Mosley fight because of the earthquake. I knew he was originally from Haiti but didn't really put it together. So, now boxing officially sucks for this year.

I agree. I really thought that when Pac accused Mayweather of ducking him, that Floyd would take the bait.

Floyd has spent his entire welterweight career ducking the best available competition. The fact that he's making excuses to avoid Pacquiao and Mosley should be a surprise to no one.

That was the best performance of Floyd's career. Shane is old as [expletive] but that was just a beat down.

He looked enormous too.

Yeah Floyd was impressive last night. Shane looked like he might have a chance after catching him with a couple good shots in round 2 but after that it was pure domination by Mayweather.

You get a chance to finish Floyd like once every 15 fights. Moseley rocked him twice and then laid back. They should have just called the fight after that.

Pretty much. How about that one round where Shane landed 3 out of 45 punches. :-))

I didn't bother wasting the money on that fight. Mosely isn't anywhere close to what he once was, and stood no real chance against Mayweather.

I'm patiently waiting for "THE" fight. Bring it!

Don King ruined boxing - that doesn't make me racist does it? Boxing has gone the way of old tyme baseball - it's done.

Give me MMA over Boxing anyday.

Don King didn't ruin boxing. He was one factor among many.

Floyd is an artist, but unfortunately he's an artist at being boring. And he knows this, which is why he cranks up the flambouyant personality. It stuns me that someone with as little power as he has is such a draw.

It's unfortunate that their careers aren't going to intersect in a way that would match them up in the ring, because I think Berto's speed would be fun to watch against Floyd. But Berto needs a few more fights before he would be ready for him, and by then Floyd (probably...maybe?) will have retired.

I read yesterday that Pac and Floyd had an agreement prior to the cancelled fight that they would split the purse 50/50. It really surprises me that Floyd agreed to that.

The speculation now is whether Floyd still would agree, in light of the fact that his PPV with Mosley probably sold about 500,000 "buys" than Pac-Clottey did. I don't think that's fair, since nobody knows who Clottey is. But we'll see.

Roach says the fight will happen in October or November.

I'll watch MMA occasionally, but not often.

Much as I'm down on the state of boxing today, I think I still enjoy seeing fighters work within a stricter framework better.

I'm probably a rarity in that regard. I like how the restrictions on what you can do makes the "game" of boxing happen. Guys can't just haul off with whatever limb they want, or go for a tackle to get into a wrestling match if they are outgunned. They have to figure out how to beat the other boxer's strong points within the framework.

Again though, I'll watch MMA every so often too. I'd call myself a casual fan of both; boxing still holds my interest more.

I disagree with you that boxing is dead. In the US, it's on one leg now. But worldwide I think it would be a mistake to declare it extinct.

Yeah, boxing is big in Europe, and especially huge in places like the Philippines, Thailand and Mexico.

I agree about MMA too. I watch it with friends who order the PPVs on occasion, but I just find it sort of silly. And the people who watch it are always waiting for that huge "extreme" knockout moment that rarely comes. Or comes about as often as it does in boxing. I don't begrudge MMA's success, even if I'm tired of seeing posers everywhere wearing Affliction.

I like MMA a lot, but I can definitely see how the whole MMA culture would annoy people. Every diehard MMA fan I come across is the same douche meathead drinking vodka and Red Bull and thinking he's Frank Mir. I'm going to a local showcase in two weeks and dreading it because you never know who's going to get pissed off and get the urge to fight.

Anyway, there's an even more ridiculous amount of money to be made if Mayweather-Pacquiao get to a rubber match.

I've watched two MMA PPVs at bars, and there were brawls in the parking lot after both.

And I won't lie, the culture, as you call it, does play a part in my negative opinion of MMA.

I overheard two of those douches comparing their vodka red bull intake while watching some match recently. Although they were wearing suits and not the typical MMA douchebag uniform.

I'm definitely of the same opinion with boxing vs. MMA. Hell, I wish kickboxing had taken off instead of MMA.
