Since the Bears are my favorite team and the Panthers my third favorite (behind the Colts)

This is just a horrible, horrible statement.

You already knew that I'm a bad person, though, since I'm on record as liking Survivor. This shouldn't surprise you.

As far as liking reality shows goes, that's not the most offensive.

i don't know how you guys can do second and third favorite teams. my favorite team is the bears, my second favorite team is my fantasy team. my least favorite team is the eagles and whomever is playing the bears.

Can't speak for NC, but having lived for a minimum of two years in Indy (2), Baltimore (2), Dallas (3) and Orange county (6) I can see building up an allegiance to teams from cities you spend a bunch of time in.

I'll admit to having maintained my allegiance to Phil Jackson when he moved to LA as he arrived right around the same time I did. I still like the Bulls far more than the Lakers, but I'll cheer for the Lakers over any team but the Bulls in the finals. I still have a lot of friends out there that are huge Lakers fans.

That said, I have even more friends in Dallas, but still hate the Cowboys. :)

I don't get how it happens with pro sports. There's a limited number of teams in any given league and it seems cut and dry. I can understand with college sports, where one may have grown up as a fan of one team but went to college at another school, and with hundreds of options and the potential for you "favorites" to never play, it makes sense. I can see cheering for another team when yours is out of it, but to actually have a second and third favorite just makes no sense to me.

In my case I have reasons for all three. I was living in the Chicago area when I first started following football, I was living in Indiana when the Colts moved from Baltimore, and I was living in North Carolina when the Panthers started (and still am in NC). It's no trouble for me as long as I have a clear pecking order when it comes to the teams. For example, in Super Bowl XLI I wasn't happy that the Bears lost, I was just less unhappy than I would have been if they had lost to somebody else.

eh, i've lived in seattle and denver, too, and while i enjoyed attending the games there (the first nfl game i ever went to was a seahawks-jaguars game at husky stadium, first nba game i ever went to was seattle-bulls during the ron artest years at key arena and the first nba playoff game i ever went to was minnesota-denver at the pepsi center) those teams don't even cross my mind when i think of teams i like. those spots are reserved for my teams, the chicago teams.

That may be how you justify it to yourself, but it still doesn't make sense. I've lived in the NY area for nearly two decades, other than occasionally cheering for the Jets in a non-Bears related game since I have friends who are Jets fans (and I like seeing them get their hopes up and then crushed), I don't have a single ounce of fandom for any of the teams. I've seen every team play at home live except the Islanders, I've seen numerous championships and I haven't even considered being a fan.

By that reasoning I should also be a Nationals fan, and that's crazy talk.

And a Ravens fan, too. Passsssssssssssssss.

I'm with you here. My favorite team is the Cowboys. My least favorite team is a three-way tie between the Eagles, Redskins, and Giants. My second favorite team is whoever's win will help the Cowboys the most. My third favorite team is any team I bet on that weekend.

I guess the only team I ever adopted at all was the Lakers and that was more due to the Phil Jackson connection at first.

If I move to those cities at the same time Phil takes over as coach, I just might!

I will never like the Steelers! I do tolerate the Pirates though, because they are harmless. Penguins, I like, but not at the expense of the Blackhawks.

Now we can fill in the missing verb.

As long as it was a minor league contract I don't mind.
