Literally the only thing Jim Hendry could get for Milton Bradley is the worst player in baseball. At that point, JUST KEEP HIM

Brandon Morrow-R-Mariners Dec. 18 - 11:54 am et

A source has informed FOXSports.com that the Mariners are trying to trade right-hander Brandon Morrow for a hitter.

I suppose if we miraculously were to get Morror in the deal, it wouldnt help as much. After all, Bradley has his problems, but is still a good player, and Silva, well, isnt.

Some people will frame it in a "when you consider he absolutely had to trade him" this is as good as you could expect to get, when in fact there never was a reason why they had to trade him.

Of course, I haven't seen any confimation on this yet.

Wow, I thought turning Bradley into Podsednik was my worst nightmare. Silva has the 2nd worst contract in baseball. I'd rather trade Bradley for Zito, straight up.

I've never said this on this forum before but this is a fireable offense. I'll contain my rage until I hear the particulars about the deal.

This move looks better if we get Michael Saunders too and cut Silva. The savings over the next five years would counteract some of Silva's money. Otherwise it's the equivalent of signing Andrew Lorraine again to a 2 year/$24 million deal. Unfathomable.

I sure hope the idiots who spent all of last season booing Bradley and exacerbating the issue are happy with this move.

Not that moving Bradley was in any way the right move, but I honest to god would have just cut him and ate the money owed before I let Carlos Silva pitch an inning for us.

I'm reserving full judgment until all the particulars come out. I hope to God we have 2-3 million coming back or a low level prospect or two. Silva has less value than Bradley..which is mind boggling

Here's the worst part of that Larry Stone article:

There is no immediate word if the Cubs will send money in the deal to make up any of the $4 million difference.

I won't like the deal even if it involves a prospect or money. I'll bet it doesn't, though. Hendry was a desparate man. He failed at the winter meetings and he didn't want this dragging out any longer than it already has. He made a deal with the only team still willing to listen to Hendry whine.

Another sickening factor is the Pat Burell has a much better contract than Silva, so is we were going to get rid of Bradley and end up paying the same amount of money either way, Id much rather have Burrell as a bat off the bench than a piece of crap like Silva anywhere near the mound.

I'm going to wait to see the particulars (money/possible inclusion of prospects) before assigning this trade a position on the "Awful trade"<------>"Disastrous trade" continuum of transactions.

There is nothing to wait for. He just traded a decent player for the worst player in the league. You just don't do that, even if it saves you a few dollars.

I don't think we're in disagreement, I'm simply trying to examine this trade contextually; Hendry has little to no leverage in dealing Bradley (which is largely his own fault). That the result of a Bradley trade would be negative for the Cubs has long been a given.

Silva straight up, however, would be outright catastrophic.

Make up the difference? Silva is owed 25 million. Bradley is owed 21.

Is he an idiot or was that a misprint?

Nah, that's just him messing up there. Silva is owed 4 more million than Bradley so it's the Mariners who would be sending money if they were just trying to even the salaries out.

This is a bad move without any other players in it. It's an absolutely horrible move if no money is exchanged or if the Mariners are just evening out the money.

That would be classic.

I'm actually embarrassed to be a Cubs fan right now.

Why? It's not like we booed a good player to the point he had to be traded for an awful pitcher with an awful contract.

It's going to be awesome when we see that Silva's ERA matches Bradley's OPS next year.

Milton Bradley was worth 9.5 VORP. That put him between Omar Infante and Cliff Pennington.

Carlos Silva was worth -9.3 VORP. That placed him 47 spots behind Dontrelle Willis.

Once again, the Cubs are now spending 8 figures annually on a guy that may very well pitch worse than all of our AA rotation.

Curses.
