On the day that a Bradley deal to a surprise team is supposedly likely, lets recap all of the rumors and propoals that have swirled round:

To Atlanta for Lowe or Vazquez: not so much a rumor as one writers proposal.

To the White Sox for Scott Linebrink: just a proposal from a writer, thank GOD

Toronto for Vernon Wells just so Jim Hendry can say he is the proud possessor of 2 of the worst contracts in baseball history

3. way w/ Blue Jays and Mets with MB going to Toronto, Overbay to the Mets and Castillo to Cubs

same thing with Tampa, only substitute Burrell for Overbay

To Mets for Oliver Perez(early proposal)

to Tampa straight up for Burrell and figure out what to do with Burrell later

To Texas, possibly for Kevin MIllwood

to KC, possibly for Gil Meche

to Seattle for Carlos Silva

to the Angels for Sarge Jr.(writer proposal, never really a rumor)

to the Giants for Aaron Rowand(I think it was just a proposal, never an actual rumor)

to the Padres for unknown

Am I missing any?

If we can find someone who will take his contract(at least 80%) and we don't have to take the same one back, I'm pleased. I just hate the thought of paying $11-18M for him not to play for us.

Id say we'll be lucky to get 40% back.

it's pretty much a gaurantee that both of those things won't happen. the cubs are either going to have to eat a huge chunk of his contract, or they're going to be taking back a bad contract.

Or of course they could just keep Bradley, but thats just crazy talk.

INDIANAPOLIS _ One of the more amusing sights on this late night was watching an impromptu meeting among Cubs president Crane Kenney, GM Jim Hendry and assistant GM Randy Bush. They held it in the vestibule between the lobby doors of the Marriott.

Every time a door would open, the wind would rush in. The only one whose hair wasn't moving was Crane's. Crane was doing a lot of gesticulating and Jim and Randy were doing a lot of listening. Care to fill in your own dialogue?

Hey, don't you guys have a nice suite where you can conduct this business? No doubt the conversation was about you-know-who, whom the Cubs have to trade sooner rather than later.

Nothing happened tonight, as we were told would be the case by a couple of Cubs people.

We'll see about the morning.

I really hope the entire Cubs brass isn't obsessing with moving Bradley as much as Bruce (and others) are making it seem. This has Sammy Sosa written all over it, to a lesser degree.

Except Sammy had little to no value.

bradley doesn't have any trade value right now either, just for different reasons.

And neither does Bradley, thanks to Lou Piniella, Jim Hendry, and a bunch of player who couldnt keep their moths shut.

I don't think you can say that. His numbers match up pretty well with Mike Cameron's 2009 season, and the Cubs are VERY interested in him. I honestly don't see much difference in Bradley's value in relation to Sosa's. A lot of teams don't want Bradley due to the issues even though Hendry seems desperate to trade him and can eat most of his contract if necessary. Sosa was getting old and Hendry was desperate to trade him and could eat most of his contract.

That there are 3 people in the Cubs brass with a desk sitting by the front door of the hotel reeks of desperation. It's like they are anxiously waiting for a GM to walk through the door so that they can throw them an offer they can't refuse. Used car salesman tactic.

The visual of their hair lifting up and tussing on their heads every time someone opens the lobby doors is rather hilarious.

WTF does 3/4 done mean?

That apparently there are still lines of coke to be snorted before Jimbo gets dumb enough to trade Bradley for Silva.

Maybe its a 4 way trade now.

Posted
Just looked at Silva's stats; I'm not sure I would trade Kevin Gregg for him

FIRE JIM NOW

I wouldt have traded Aaron Miles for Silva if the Mariners agreed to pick up both players salaries, but luckily, I think that rumor is dead in the water.

except cameron plays center (and plays it well) while sosa played a corner outfield (and played it poorly)

most of cameron's value comes from his position and his defense

FWIW Billy Beane comments on Bradley

"You're right; he was pretty happy here -- and he did help us into the only ALCS [2006] we've had in all my years here," said Beane, before reverting to the code.

"But I can't comment on other teams' players."

So maybe the A's are the mystery team? Not many GMs are saying postive things about Bradley so this is a start.

i don't know who'd they give in return. chavez? ellis? they're the only ones making over 5 million.

Is Eric Chavez even playing baseball anymore? I know he played a handful of games last year before having back surgery. Is he ever expected to come back (Sorry, off topic)?

"The first day of the rest of the Cubs' lives without Milton Bradley appeared on the horizon Tuesday with multiple sources saying the Cubs were close to a deal to send Bradley to an unidentified American League team.

One source said the two-team deal was ''three-quarters'' done by late in the day Tuesday and involved the Cubs receiving another heavy-contract player, who would then be flipped to a third team.

The source would not reveal the ''surprise'' team but eliminated Tampa Bay and Texas as destination teams after weeks of that pair being linked to Bradley and the Cubs closer than any others.

General manager Jim Hendry wouldn't talk specifically about the progress of Bradley talks but didn't rule out making a move by late Tuesday night.

''I'm always hopeful,'' he said. ''Hopefully, [at this point in the winter] you're pinpointing areas where you feel like you can keep moving toward a possible finish line. ... Between now and [the end of the meetings] Thursday, I think we've got it to the situation where we're only going to be meeting with the people we feel we're going to have a conclusion with.''

One source said the Cubs were ready to pull the trigger on a deal as soon as the other party was.

As for the identity of the mystery AL destination, sources from those teams and the Cubs eliminated all but a few teams -- among the intriguing possibilities: Detroit (for former Cubs prospect Dontrelle Willis and the one-year, $12 million left on his contract?), Kansas City (Jose Guillen and his one-year, $12 million contract?) and Toronto (but definitely not for Vernon Wells' five years and gazillion dollars).

At least one media report late Tuesday refuted any interest by Kansas City.

Bradley, who was suspended the last 15 games of the season for ''conduct detrimental to the team,'' has been shopped by the Cubs since last summer. He has about $22 million left over the last two years of his contract.

Until late Monday, Tampa Bay appeared the likeliest destination for Bradley, as part of a three-team scenario in which the Cubs would acquire and flip outfielder Pat Burrell.

But two teams joined Tampa Bay and Texas as serious suitors Monday, according to sources, heating the discussions and -- with the New York Mets balking on joining Tampa Bay as a third team -- knocking the Rays out of the driver's seat for Bradley."

And the OP said he had little to NO value, which isn't true. Sammy OPS'd .850, and I can show you a bunch of corner outfielders who don't OPS .850.

ok, now how many can you name who were making as much as sosa? a players trade value isn't determined on performance alone. in sosa's case, the main factor was his ridiculous salary.

It would be funny if it was the White Sox. Not sure what the bad contract would be coming in return or who the PTBF would be.

Player to be [expletive]?

Flipped.
