Sanchez is a good player. He's not great, but he's not an empty batting average guy, either.

 

Given where the Giants are as a franchise, getting someone like Sanchez to agree to a two year deal helps them quite a bit. They need all the decent offensive players they can get their hands on.

Exactly. They only need a mediocre offensive team to compete in that division. They are really set up for the playoffs with Cain and Lincicome.

Given their internal options, this certainly isn't a bad deal at all. Sanchez is above average at a key defensive position, and can contribute with the bat on occasion as well. Honestly, he doesn't have to do all that much with the bat to be worth his contract, especially since the Giants are so close to the playoff picture anyways.
