I think when a team tanks it reflects on everything, and even those key players don't look so attractive as they did when wins were being racked up. Maybe it's not the only factor, but it exists.

salmons/tyrus/hinrich are not the difference between a playoff berth and tanking.

When Salmons and Hinrich TRULY sucked at the beginning of the year and Tyrus was hurt this was legitimately one of the worst teams in the NBA. Basically Johnson, Pargo, Brown, et. al. are going to give you early Kirk/Salmons level of suck and if you have no Tyrus either you're looking at a really bad product. Probably better than that early season funk because Rose is rocking but still awful.

IT WON'T [expletive] MATTER.

Jesus Christ, you really think the big free agents are going to make middling, average players the dealbreakers as to why they'll come here? OF COURSE NOT. All they're gonna care about are Rose and Noah and Deng and maybe Gibson. The rest will be dealt with through an additional signings and the draft. The Bulls are not looking to trade difference makers. They'd be temporarily going from being an average team at best to a below average team. It's not a dealbreaker.

the bottom line is that if a FA player factors in team performance as much as spongeworthy is claiming, then he's going to do the extra 5 minutes of research and factor in the fact that the reason they slumped down the stretch was due to getting rid of contracts for money to spend on THEM. the Bulls being mediocre is good enough for a big FA to come here. An improving Noah/Rose plus Deng is enough for any top tier FA to think that their star power will make this a contender

Nope, impossible. The Bulls have to actually handicap themselves to get better. To hell with luring players in with a big market and a lot of money and a player like Rose; THEY'LL ONLY SIGN IF WE HAVE MCGRADY. OH NO, THAT DIDN'T WORK BECAUSE FOR SOME CRAZY REASON THE BULLS HAVE SIGNED MCGRADY TO A 3-YEAR DEAL.

Any other crazy theories we can pack into this one?

exactly. it's ridiculous to think a FA will be worried about whether guys like kirk/salmons/tt helped us win an extra 3-5 games or something ridiculous like that

FAs will see

a) money

b) market/location

c) rose/noah

Yes, I don't think it would look very good to free agents if the Bulls started playing like one of the 5 or so worst teams in the NBA for the rest of the year. The fact is is that Bosh, Wade, James, JJ, etc. can all stay home for more money on teams that are already better. Or Wade can tell one of the others to head on down to South Beach instead of taking a risk on Rose and Noah being players you can win a title with. Chicago's a great city and a great market but you want as many positives on your side as possible. After all, New York's a great market too.

I'm not saying I wouldn't clear more cap room. I would. I would just be very wary of making deals where you get absolutely nothing in return and could result in a quick plummet to the bottom of the Eastern conference.

Rose/Hunter

Pargo/Brown

Deng/Johnson

Gibson/K. Thomas

Noah/Miller

and you're still not acknowledging the fact that these FAs will understand that the reason they slumped down the stretch was to have money to spend on them.

your logic is just all kinds of flawed

You're really underestimating how good Rose has been since mid-December and how good Noah has been all season long.

The Salmons deal was perfect. But apparently the deal isn't final as it could be expanded to include Houston and/or Sacramento. The next day and a half is going to be extremely interesting.

Yes, towards the end of the 2010 season when it briefly existed. On the way to ideally signing two impact FA's that drastically changes the team's makeup.

Nevermind, I heard Bosh just called a press conference to say that there is no way in hell that he'll play in Chicago without John Salmons. The Bulls are screwed.

Exactly, it's John [expletive] Salmons.

You should see the RealGM reaction to this trade. You'd have thought that we traded a player that was actually great or something.

oh, and let's take the teams that are rumored to be going hard after max FAs this offseason and compare what they'll look like

cleveland (without lebron)

miami (without wade)

knicks

those are the main 3 teams that are going to be fighting for the big guys. which one of those 3 teams has the best team without any of the big free agents?

the answer is chicago, and it's not even remotely close.

it really is embarrassing.

I haven't heard anything related to Bosh. Doesn't Toronto want to get something for him? LA is out of the Bosh talks right?

bosh will be a free agent.

Exactly. They aren't going to resign him, so trade him now for something.

Posted
And hey, if the Bulls do tank it after the deadline, boom, better draft pick. It's very easily argued that the worse this team is after the deadline the better it is for their future.

If they were smart they'd trade him to the Bulls for the gamechanging dynamic duo of Hinrich and Thomas. Too bad they already missed out on the majesty that is John Salmons.

Jerome James and Tyrus for Al Harrington being thrown out there. I'm pretty indifferent on that move. Doesn't really do anything one way or the other. I guess Harrington is a better player than Tyrus, though. I hope that if this happens it doesn't take playing time away from Taj.

At least Harrington can space the floor, something that this team really doesn't have much of.

That's pretty much how I feel about it too. It would be nice to force one of the other teams bigs to guard out at the perimeter and open up the lane for Derrek a little more.

It sounds like Hakim Warrick and Joe Alexander will be coming to us from Milwaukee now. If true, that should further cement the fact that Tyrus will be dealt by tomorrow afternoon. Warrick makes Tyrus completely obsolete.

That's a much better haul than Thomas and Elson too, so hopefully people won't cry about this.

Does he make Thomas obsolete? I mean in terms of a SF that takes Thomas' slot in the rotation, yes. But they are fairly different players. For one, Thomas is a very good weak side shot blocker, while Warrick averages 0.2 blocks per game.

Joe Alexander must be a huge bust. I didn't understand at the time why Milwaukee made that pick, and it looks like the Bucks might have given up on him already. He hasn't played in a game all season.

What are the contract situations of those players?

I don't think Alexander is an expiring....I think he's only been in the NBA for 2 seasons. Aren't rookie contracts 3 years guaranteed?

Edit: Nevermind, they are both expiring
