I think the Rams are pretty clearly the worst team in football.

This. How do you only score 24 total points in four games? Funny thing is, 17 of those were against Green Bay.

I think there's some clear separation in the league right now.

There's a clear top 6 favorites (Colts, Ravens, Pats, Giants, Vikings, Saints), a clear next 10 contenders (Steelers, Broncos, Chargers, Jets, Bengals, Bears, Packers, Eagles, Falcons, 49ers), a clear group of 8 "spoilers" with a remote prayer of getting back into it (Texans, Jags, Titans, Dolphins, Seahawks, Cardinals, Cowboys, Panthers), and a clear group of 8 terrible teams that no decent team should lose to (Bills, Raiders, Chiefs, Browns, Lions, Redskins, Bucs, Rams).

Oddly enough, the AFC and NFC is split evenly through the groups.

Minnesota still has a lot to prove before they get "sure thing" status for me.

And I'm way not convinced the Broncos are anything more than an illusion. Or the Bengals.

I don't think any team is a sure thing this year, but right now it's hard to say they're not a league favorite.

Illusion or not, the only loss between the teams was against each other. The Broncos are better than the Cowboys, and the Bengals won in Green Bay. Those two victories at the least make them worthy of being mentioned as a contender right now.

Here's how I'd rank the teams after roughly 1/4 of the season:

26. Panthers

27. Lions

28. Raiders

29. Bucs

30. Chiefs

31. Browns

32. Rams

the Chiefs don't belong in the bottom 5, especially behind the Raiders, who shouldn't escape bottom 3 all year.

Rams, Raiders, Browns, Bills, Lions will be the top 5 picks in the draft, i think

Kansas City, September 20: Oakland 13, Kansas City 10.

yeah and didn't they outgain Oak 2.5-1 that game?

I would say the Bills have a chance to be a spoiler. They have the talent to win against any team. They just have to get the offense figured out. I don't see how that is different from say the Titans needing to figure out their issues.

The rest of the bottom teams don't have any chance to figure things out.

Last year's Lions might have been able to beat this year's Rams. I think it's that bad.

Of course, there's not much reason to care right now if you're a St. Louis fan, since the Cardinals are going to make their run at the WS.

Right now they absolutely belong in the bottom 5. They're 0-4 and they lost to the Raiders. It may turn out that they're not an bottom five team, but right now they are. The rankings aren't projecting who is going to turn out to be a bottom-5 team, but who is one based on four games.

409-166. Will Kansas City have more wins/a better season than Oakland? I'd think so. The Raiders look atrocious, the Chiefs just bad. However, at this point, Oakland has a better point differential, a better record and a road win over the Chiefs (KC has played better competition so far). It's relatively hard to justify ranking the Chiefs over the Raiders at this point, in my mind.

my comment was on the quality of the teams. what you guys are talking about seems like slightly adjusted current W-L rankings, which serves little purpose, even for entertainment or discussion

How about that early season Redskins schedule, though? Sure, Giants week 1 was rough, but since then through week 6: vs. Rams, @ Lions, vs. Bucs, @ Panthers, vs. Chiefs.

This is the first week that results are actually opponent-adjusted. The DAVE ratings are based partly on preseason projections. 0 is average in the league. Positive DVOA is better offensively, worse defensively.

Some surprising things to me:

- Wow, look at Jacksonville's offense. That's why they are as high as they are overall.

- On the flip side, wow, look at the Jets' offense.

- DVOA always loves Philly. They play so well year in, year out, it makes you wonder how they struggle as much as they do.

- After four weeks, there are just two teams that are above average in all facets: Philly and Minnesota. I'm sure their fourth phases are terrible, though.

- Tennessee's special teams is awful. Chicago's special teams is awesome.

I forgot to say the 49ers game this week is also really important because after our bye we have @ Houston and @ Indianapolis. If we are 3-2 we could very well be .500 with the confidence shot. If we are 4-1 we would still be over .500 at 4-3 and at worst tied for the division lead.

For Packer fans:

The Packers have gone in search of help for their beleaguered offensive line and they’ve found a familiar face. Veteran Mark Tauscher worked out for the team today, and reports indicate he is likely to sign with the club at some point this week.

If Tauscher doesn’t replace Barbre immediately, he may do so at some point. One player Green Bay will have to replace is kick returner WIll Blackmon. He will miss the remainder of the season with a torn ACL.

Bring him and Levi Jones in. We need all of the help that we can get.

If Tausch is healthy, he's a gigantic improvement over Barbre. Clifton needs to get healthy so Colledge can move back to guard. He's atrocious as a left tackle.

Overnight/really early this morning the 49ers signed Crabtree and the Browns traded Braylon to the Jets.

Time for Crabtree to get the Cedric Benson treatment from the team.
