The 68-year-old, a four-time Manager of the Year, agreed to a one-year contract extension for 2010, the Braves announced before Wednesday night’s game against the New York Mets. He will start a five-year consulting agreement to advise the team in baseball operations after he steps down as manager.

2,408 regular-season wins. Fourth all time.

Great career. Makes me wonder what type of offseason the Braves are going to have. There was talk of them trying to trade of Vazquez, but you have to think they are going to try and make one final push for the man. I could see them going after Holliday or looking to trade for an equally as good middle of the order bat.

Never really saw this coming. Great career, but it was all about his 14 straight seasons of winning division titles and only 1 World Series in 1995. Is that enough though to put him in the Hall Of Fame? I see it as being very debatable, but not really worthy of making it in.

he'll easily be in the hall of fame and he easily deserves it.

What current managers do you see being more worthy? I could see a case for LaRussa and possibly Torre. I'd take Bobby over either one, though.

maybe a better question would be if Cox makes it who doesn't? Because if Cox makes it then Mike Scosicia, Joe Torre, LaRussa, Terry Francona, Lou Piniella they should be in the Hall of Fame. I think what has Cox being talked about as a potential Hall of Famer is because of the 14 straight division titles.

He's got the 4th most wins of all time. He has to get in.

I think what got Hank Aaron talked about was the 755 HRs.

Scosicia? Really? I don't think he enters into this conversation without another 5-10 years at the helm.

I think a better question that yours would be: If Cox can't get in, who can?

Only LaRussa has more wins than Cox amongst active managers and nobody has a better winning percentage or led their teams to the playoffs more times.

Well I would certainly hope thats the starting point of discussion. :banghead:

He's also tied for 9th all-time amongst managers with 5 pennants won.

He's also 17th all-time in winning % amongst managers with at least 1000 games managed.

He's 3rd all-time in games above .500 over his career.

Yeah, this is as much a no-brainer as it gets.

yeah, because that's one of the most impressive accomplishments by a manager ever.

If you don't put Cox in, you might as well not have any managers in the hall of fame.

Diminishing the 14 straight division titles is pretty ridiculous since that's probably the marker of his great career. Really, what more can you want out of a guy than to take 14 different teams and win the division each and every year.

Thanks for the research Tim. Ok, I'll (Shaun) back off my stance.
