Maybe, maybe not. The source is an AP article that in turn sources... nothing. Entirely possible that an AP writer simply caught where one of the local rags says "Colvin could be called up if Bradley's done."

Tomorrow will tell the tale, I imagine.

I'm happy for Tyler. He was left for dead by a lot of Cubs fans and responded with a nice second half. I'd be thrilled if he could become a similar player to someone like Luke Scott.

If Colvin is allowed to play everyday then this is an interesting idea. But if Lou going to sit him on the bench so that Fox can have a buddy, then I will be mad.

Very interesting. Could the Cubs be considering him as an option to start next year?

Only if they plan on sucking more than they did this season.

That's already quite clear.

I'd be fine with him not starting if he's the first option as pinch hitter everygame. Because that's his future role with the team unless he turns into Hunter Pence

I'd prefer Colvin play, but even if he doesn't do much, it's not necessarily a bad thing. The minor league seasons are over, so it's not like he'd be sitting on the bench while he could be playing in AAA or AA.

That said, though, I'd much rather he play significantly if for no other reason than just getting some experience.

Cubs designated RHP Thomas Diamond for assignment.

The move clears space on the 40-man roster for outfield prospect Tyler Colvin, who was called up Monday morning. Diamond, a former top pitching prospect, posted a 6.55 ERA in 11 innings with Texas and a 4.20 ERA in the Rangers' farm system before moving on to the Cubs' organization in early September.

Really? Was Thomas Diamond the best candidate to be released? We couldn't DFA So Taguchi who serves no purpose?

So Taguchi has the higher upside and has a spot in the organization for the future.....d'uh.

It makes you wonder what the point of even picking Diamond up was. He never threw a pitch for the Cubs.

DFA doesn't necessarily equal release. If Diamond stays with the organization, it just means he's off the 40-man, a move they could easily reverse in the offseason.

I consider myself a mediocre follower of the minors and I haven't a clue who Thomas Diamond is.

He was part of the original DVD trio of pitching prospect for the Rangers. He was picked up by the Cubs a couple of weeks ago but didn't get into a game before the minor league season ended.

They could be trying to sneak him through waivers in order to clear 40 man space for the offseason. Or they could have just worked him out and found that he had nothing they liked and so plan on releasing him. It's hard to tell. But I don't think they are doing this to clear 40 man space..not when they could still move Chad Fox to the 60 day DL if they needed a spot.

They didn't need to do either. They could have simply moved Chad Fox to the 60-day DL to clear up a spot on the 40-man.

They must have had some indication that Diamond wasnt going to make it back, at least anytime soon. Otherwise, they could have just transfered Chad Fox to the 60 day DL. Too bad.

As for Colvin, not a bad 1st day of work, but if hes going to make it in the big leagues, hes going to need to spend half the off season in the weight room and the other half at an Old Country Buffet.

What I don't get is why Colvin was playing right field in the minors...They only way he starts in the pros is to play center field...Unless they believe the other guys they had done there are better prospects longterm in just doesnt make sense to me...I was glad to see him get called up even for just a cup of joe...

I can't say for sure but they probably saw enough of him playing CF in the minors to have a good idea of how well suited he is for that position. They probably started him in CF last night so Trammell and Piniella could see how he handled it.

Plus, Kosuke is better suited for RF anyway, so if Colvin were to prove his worth, maybe there is an off chance he could earn a look in spring training in center.
