Im so honored that a 35 year old with a bad wrist and .255 avg/.761 OPS will consider coming back for the right terms. DeRosa would have been great to have this year, but as for next year, like you said, Id just assume go with Baker or a Baker/Font platoon.

I loved DeRo as a Cub. I certainly think he would have helped us this year with all the injuries we had. Unless he came back at a VERY reasonable salary though, I think our money is better well spent elsewhere. If he'd take 2-6 or 2-8, I think we'd have to do it honestly. He does bring alot to a club. The wrist surgery is scary obviously and I have no clue what it entails, but if it's like DLee's surgery, it's not a red flag in this case. It's unfortunately time for us to steer clear no matter what, unless he would take a hell of a discount even from the modest figures I said earlier.

Bottom line is I figure some team will give him a solid contract, maybe 3-15 or 3-18 possibly and that almost definitely won't be us.

Dear Jim Hendry, 9 years 300 mill should be enough. Do it.

Sincerely, Milo in the bleachers.

P.S. And trade that angry black guy that replaced him in the first place

P.P.S.: Bring steve stone back.

Please don't.....in any capacity.

Hoping you realize that, that entire post was sarcasm.

I did. It's just that even a mere thought of that tool coming back to the Cubs, sarcasm or not, makes my skin crawl!

I guess for the right terms, I wouldn't mind DeRosa back. But considering what he might ask for, I think I much rather see if Jeff Baker can continue the end of 2009 into 2010, or pursue a guy like Roberts (via trade, if he becomes avail), or a more likely player like Hdson.

Are we still going on about this tool? He's gonna be 32, he's gonna cost $10 million a season until he's 36, and he's gonna cost us good prospects that could be better used to get us someone better in a bigger deal if need be, and he's gonna provide what... an OPS+ between 110-115? Is that worth it?

Roberts should be nothing more than fond memory of what could've been, not what could be

The only way DeRo comes back is if the Cardinals win the World Series and DeRosa's versitility in the playoffs is a big part of that, and played up a lot by the media. Then Hendry will be forced to emulate the current World Champs and give him big $$$

Mark DeRosa's value to be at this point is mostly sentimental. I have no problem saying that my liking him has every bit as much to do with the way he plays the game, his personality, and other generic hard-working white guy cliches as it does with his on the field performance. Does that make me want him back with a wrist injury? Not one bit. I hope he goes to an AL team and never plays the Cubs as an opponent again.

The DeRosa trade looks to have ended up being a smart move by Hendry. All 3 young arms performed well and he found a younger, cheaper, and potentialy better option in Baker. It hurt our team in the first half with Ramirez's injury and the Fontenot/Miles suckfest at 2B but now at the end of the season looks much better.

i can see the offseason unfolding now

- hendry dumps bradley for nothing and still has to pay over half the remaining contract

- hendry overpays for derosa on a multi-year deal to play right

- hendry gives 4/48 to chone figgins

- hendry overpays and gives a multi-year deal to grabow

- hendry doesn't offer harden arbitration, doesn't get the picks

The Yankees will outbid us for Figgins, and Hendry will have to look elsewhere for his speedy leadoff hitter. Scott Podsednik gets a 3/25.

I was pissed at the DeRosa trade at the time, but after seeing how the pitchers have panned out (and DeRo's performance this year), I have to give some credit to Hendry. The chain reaction it set off was less pleasant, but on a pure talent-for-talent swap, it worked out.
