Christ, this thread is getting as bad on game days as Cubs game day threads.

I'm just pissed off about the last 2 Bulls games and then turning on the game and seeing them give up 3 straight goals in 10 minutes. None of my posts have any logic and I'm looking to start a fight with my illogical posting.

by the way, i gotta wonder how much of this has to do with effort and just the mental aspect in general. it seems like this team got complacent around the time of that minnesota game. tonight was a perfect example. the effort was great in the 3rd period and we absolutely dominated them. but where was it in the 1st 2 periods? there was no sense of urgency, no fire. it looked like they were just going through the motions.

i think Q needs to rip into this team. the carolina loss was kinda "eh" because it was the last game of a brutal road trip, but tonight was disgusting. they did not come to play in the first 2 periods at all, and that's been happening too often recently.

General statement: I hate St. louis. Even the actual Saint. Thanks a lot, Pope Boniface VIII.

we'll be lucky to get another point the rest of the way.

They will be lucky to ever score a goal again. All the players should go home and never return during the olympic break.

Every team hits a bad stretch. The Hawks will be fine. They are too talented to keep this up.

6-5-1 in our last 12 games (since the Minnesota collapse). Only 1 of those wins was by more than 2 goals. During the stretch the Blackhawks have been outscored 36-39. They've dropped from 1st in goal differential by ~15 goals to 3rd, although that has been as much of an effect of other teams playing well as it is the Blackhawks struggling.

The silver lining is of course that every team goes through tough stretches like this. San Jose earlier this year had a stretch when they went 6-4-5 over a 15 game period. The other silver lining is that of course 6-5-1 isn't all that bad, it's just mediocre. It's frustrating to watch when you know they are capable of so much better play.

On a side note, what the fudge is going on with Keith?

Also, Huet's stats in his last 7 games:

W-L: 3-4-0

GAA: 3.50

SAV %: .859

Blah.

obvously they haven't been playing as well over that stretch, but this was the toughest part of the schedule, and an 8 game road trip always takes a toll.

Didn't seem to bother the Sharks when they went 8-2-1 during a stretch where they played 9 of 11 on the road. Or the Capitals when they went 8-3-0 with the same 9/11 stretch.

You're right that was a tough stretch, but you and I both know they are capable of much more than 6-5-1 over a tough stretch. I'm sure all the top teams in the league have a stretch where they just aren't playing up to their capabilities. It just always worries you more when you have a younger team like the Hawks. I'm sure they are fine, and the Olympic break is probably a godsend for them, even if a third of the team is playing in it.

BTW, regarding the Sharks, their remaining schedule consists of 16 road games and just 10 home games. If the Hawks pick up their pace, they should be able to pace them up easily.

I do remember last year the Hawks went into a similar "funk"

They came out of it and did very well

I'm kind of glad it is happening now. Let's get it out of the way and gear back up in time for the playoffs

Couple of Hawks news as I come across:

*The Hawks are supposed out of the Ilya Kovalchuk sweepstakes. Latest rumor has the Flyers jumping in with supposedly an offer of

Briere and Van Riemsdyk plus a pick. Don't know how true that is, tho.

*For those who think the Hawks are ok with their current goaltending (including yours truly), we are wrong. Apparently the Hawks are "nervous" about Huet as their goalie for the playoffs and are said to be searching for a vet backup. Roloson's name has came up.

Only way this happens is if one of the $3 million dollar players is moved.

*A couple of days agao Sassone drop a potential McKee rumor, and apparently he didn't pull this one out of his butt like so many other Chicago beat writers have done over the years. Yes, the Hawks are searching for a vet defensemen.

Looks like the Devils just got him. Great move for them.

I'm living in Atlanta right now and the fan base is livid. The Thrashers are only one point out of the playoffs, yet they are losing the fanchise's best player after offering him a contract very near the max. For a team that doesn't draw well, they offered him a good deal. I don't know if Atlanta is going to be able to support a team now. You can't lose Heatley, Kovi, and Hossa and only make the playoffs once in 10 years and expect to really support a team.

Maybe, maybe not. But with the rumors of him leaving the NHL for the KHL in the offseason (I doubt it, but who knows) to give up two of your best prospects plus two high draft picks for an obviously rental, is an awfully high price to pay. Not to mention this still only makes the Devils the third best team in the East behind Pittsburgh and Washington.

Good move for the Devils, but an awfully expensive move.

I don't know, maybe their 3rd maybe there are not, but the gap between those 3 teams has tightened. I could see any of those 3 winning the East. It's crazy between the Sharks, Blackhawks, Devils, Capitals, Penguins, Canucks, there are a lot of really good teams in the NHL this year. I don't think there is anything close to a clear favorite.
