just annoyed by your blasting of anyone who suggests that maybe this team isn't going to turn it around and become very good again. they've played like this for 24 games. it's not ridiculous to think that this may be them for the rest of the year.

our defense and goaltending have both been garbage for like 2 months. it's going to be hard to turn that around.

I'm going to continue to blast them. Because as we've seen repeatedly throughout pretty much the entire history of sports, this stuff is ridiculously fickle. The fact that they've been playing bad for two months doesn't mean crap about how they will be playing in another month and a half.

They were playing awesome three or four months ago, and that didn't carry over either, so why should this?

They might be awesome in the playoffs, they might be awful, but how they are playing right now has little bearing on it.

how can you possibly say that when we're like a month away from the postseason? they're been playing like crap for 2 months and the playoffs start next month, but we're not supposed to factor in how theyre playing right now?

this is why people don't ever take you seriously. just shut up.

and i suppose people take your lame-ass comments seriously

my comments are, at the very least, arguable./

you constantly say garbage that you KNOW isn't true and that you dont even believe. there's a huge difference, and everyone knows it.

your "act" is so [expletive] tired. we get it dude.

you just get done saying this team is "highly mediocre" and you take issue when i say that they aren't that good?

i think you're the one who doesn't know what to believe

oh and i'd like to back up whoever called out byfuglien earlier. i'm so sick of that guy.

not a surprise he has (by far) the worst plus/minus on the team. it was disgusting to see him casually coasting into the zone on that OT GW

so now you're going to intentionally take my words out of context?

i said theyve been highly mediocre OVER THE LAST 24 GAMES, which they have. meanwhile you're spouting nonsense about how they suck and are going to suck every year, even though you know thats not true.

Yes. Because it's not a month from now. These things ebb and flow pretty much constantly, and yet people always convince themselves that they can make some sort of sense out of it. Every year in every sport, some teams play like crap for the end of the regular season and are then awesome in the playoffs, and vice-versa. As far as I can tell, there is absolutely no correlation.

From Dec. 22 to Feb. 24 of last season, the Stanley Cup champion Pittsburgh Penguins went 9-14-3. They played like absolute crap for two full months. And then what happened? They turned it around for no rhyme or reason.

There are rumors on 300 level that Hossa is out for the year with a shoulder injury, but at this point there are no links, just posters claiming they've heard from reliable sources.

expletive

Say what you want about Campbell but this D gets a lot worse if he's not out there.

no, not really.

Really? You'd rather see Sopel eat up minutes over Campbell? Sopel is awful.

This defense gets significantly worse without Campbell.

And the really crappy thing is, if he'd been injured a little earlier we could have at least had his cap room back for the trade deadline, I think.

and what are you implying by saying that they've sucked over the last 24 games? i'd assume you're using that to predict how they're going to perform the rest of the season. i actually don't have to assume, you openly claim it. since most peopla gree this is about as good as gets for the hawks, i don't think it's unreasonable to infer that they will never come close to a cup with this team, which is virtually un-upgradeable.

you really think it will be impossible for them to get a goalie in the upcoming years while we still have this good young core?

really? even if we dont get one for next year, huet's contract will be up after that and we'll still be a good team. then we'll have money to sign an actual goalie.

where are you guys seeing that he might be out for the year?

Tribune web site says it's "serious" and Q won't rule it out "effective him for the rest of the year" and they'll "know more in the next few days"

That was me. I didn't realize that about his +/-, but it doesn't surprise me at all. He is the very definition of a "contract year" player. Except for the first part of this year, his motivation was to make the olympic team. When that didn't happen, he went back to giving half-effort or worse.

He coasts all the time, especially on the forecheck. It's inexcusable.

Campbell sucks, but I agree that if he's out we're in a lot of trouble. Hendry and Sopel cannot be a defensive pairing against San Jose or Vancouver. Not to mention that any additional defensive weakness only serves to put our shitty goaltending under an even bigger microscope.

This is the first time since he was hired that I am questioning Q's ability to get the most of his this team. The production and dominance of the first line is still there, but after that, you've got too much dead weight. Sharp, Hossa and Madden have played well lately on the lower-down lines. Other than that, there are a lot of non-hackers out there.

another thing- anybody else feel like seabrook has taken a big step back?

I think Seabrook and Keith have taken a big step back. Keith not as big, but his turnovers in our zone are very visible mistakes. Seabrook has looked pretty bad as the year has gone on. Honestly with their regressions, Campbells injury and the presence of Sopel in general, I'm wondering if defensemen, not goaltending, is the biggest weakness on this team.

Some stats comparing the first 44 games and the last 24 games.

5+ goals scored games

First 44 games: 9

Last 24 games: 4 (this one isn't too bad)

4+ goals allowed games

First 44 games: 6

Last 24 games: 9

3+ goal wins

First 44 games: 15

Last 24 games: 3

2+ goal losses

First 44 games: 4

Last 24 games: 5

Goal differential

First 44 games: +55

Last 24 games: 0

Yuck.

but keith's big step forward offensively make up for his defensive lapses. i still think he's been better overall this year than last

coaching change, Gonchar returning, and a couple of savvy moves at the trade deadline...not exactly no rhyme or reason
