2009 Regular Season - Week 1 - Bears vs Pack - 9/13 7pm NBC

Is it weird to lose a horribly played game like this and actually feel BETTER about the team than before the game?

Honestly that's how I'm feeling.

How the [expletive]?

We outplayed GB. Every stat but the score (and INT's) were in our favor. Really, if we just cool it with the turnovers and direct snaps to the RB, we'll win those games. First game of the season, lots to clean up.

Cutler may have been the worst thing in that game...and we all know he can play. He had a terrible game tonight. Next one will be better.

BradBiggs: Word from sideline is long snapper Pat Mannelly snapped fake punt to Wolfe because he though Pack had 12 men on field

He had a great view while having his head down motioning to Wolfe. But the point is that the 5 yard flag wouldnt have given the Bears a first down and they would have punted anyway.

For sure. Long snappers should not be in the business of thinking on the football field.

There are plenty of positives to take away from the game. The offense dominated basically the entire second half and were driving well in the first half also. The defense held the Packers to two long-range FG attempts and notched a safety (along with the one-yard TD) until that last blown play by Vasher. Turnovers and special teams gaffes led directly to 10 Packers points and additionally killed two drives on the Packers end of the field.

I'm not worried about this team at all, aside from the injuries to the LBs. They really did have their way with the Packers, just made too many mistakes.

You aren't worried about the inexperienced receivers? The terrible o-line play? Cutler's bad decision making? The average coach that Lovie is? The poor DBs the Bears put out there?

I believe so as well Steelers and all.

Wouldn't the snap to Maynard draw the same penalty?

Considering that even with all that, the Bears dominated offensively, no. Any fool with half a brain could see that.

It'd probably take longer than a snap to Wolfe.

Maybe he thought Maynard was too far away to hear/see the signal. He's lucky Wolfe caught the ball.

And it's easier to signal to a closer player that you're going to snap the ball early. If he snaps to Maynard before he's expecting the ball, that play would've actually been worse.

Exactly. No offense to their fans but GB didn't impress me tonight. That's not saying that they didn't also play a bad game, or that the Bears might have done a really nice job against them, but I feel better about the division than before the game. However, I would have felt 10 times better with a win obviously.

Which is why they tried to run to Wolfe hoping he could surprise them and run for a first down. If they punt the ball and 12 men is called, they will re punt the ball 5 yards closer to their end zone.

I'm not saying I agree at all but that was the logic.

Does WBBM carry the post game on-line?

All the Chicago radio stations have postgame shows. I'm listening to http://www.670thescore.com 's show

OB and Doug must be totally flipping out

Doug is strangely calm. Maybe I turned in too late. He is usually much more angry even in wins. Classic Doug was after the Bears playoff win over Seattle, yelling about how they have no shot of beating New Orleans with that crap performance.

I think he's hoping to catch GB off guard with a "free play." If Wolfe were to get by the one tackler, he would have picked up the first down. I don't think he was snapping early for the penalty, he was shooting for a chance to get the first down on a free play. However, in that situation, you better be extremely sure he's still on the field. I understand the thinking, and in a different circumstance, I like it. But that wasn't the right time, and his call was about 3 seconds too late. Terrible.

I'm still PO'ed a the outside Forte run on second and goal from the 3, TD there and the Bears win.

Why is that a bad call? I would think people would have been more pissed if he ran up the gut for like the 8th straight play and got stuffed. People would have asked why they didn't try to run outside. If you catch the defense right it can really be an easy score (see USC last night).

That said, Forte wasn't running to the outside very well all game, I'll admit that.

Guys on Comcast just said that Urlachers injury diagnosis "doesn't sound good"

Wow. Ride that fear machine. They said, "we're not doctors"

Not to ride the fear machine, but dislocated wrists often need surgery and months of recovery. If it's a severe dislocation, Urlacher could miss most of the season.

Yesterday, Michigan won, MSU lost and OSU lost...perfect day.

Today, Bears lost, GB won, and the Vikings won....anti-perfect day.

At least the Cubs won??

That's why I thought it was a bad call, seems to me Lovie sticks with something too long.

So Mannely thought they were in the worst case getting a free play. That makes more sense. But still too dangerous considering the field position. You have to be certain he is off the field. But you cant turn down a twelve men on the field call can you even if they got a first on the Wolfe run?

Given Cubs' wins mean nothing, I gladly would have traded a Cubs loss for a Bears win.
