The Phils were 7 back with 18 to play a couple years ago and took the division on the final day.

This Cub team has been way too inconsistent to suggest that they will make a run over the final 3 weeks. This most recent streak has been against some terrible baseball teams.

Over the last 5 years, here's a breakdown of the NL Wild Card Entry => Wins:

2004 => 92

2005 => 89

2006 => 88

2007 => 90

2008 => 90

The Cubs playoff odds are up to a whopping 2.5%, which is the highest they've been in 2 weeks.

They are also the 8th highest in the NL, behind St. Louis, Philly, LA, Colorado, San Francisco, Atlanta and Florida.

If they can somehow get to a 1 in 5 shot or better, then they have a realistic shot. Keep in mind, the Giants are 2.5 back and they don't even have a 1 in 5 shot.

Well [expletive], I'd better buy my playoff tickets now!

Cubs/Rockies have 35 games left, Cubs need to "go" 23-12 in them.

Since I didn't say it yesterday...

Cubs/Rockies have 33 games left, Cubs need to "go" 23-10 in them.

When the Phillies were 7 games back with 18 to play, what were there odds? Anyone know how to check such things?

1.2-1.4% according to cool standings.(For the division, they had like a 14% chance at the wildcard.

They currently have us at a .5-.6% chance at making the playoffs.(including today's game)

I lost this site for a week....it was just gone! In the meantime everything I was pulling for went askew....Cardinals losing 5 of 6 to Atl/Fla was horrible. It should have been the other way around. The Cubs would be in real decent shape if that had happened.

Im a Card fan as well as a Cubs, but the Cards are in already. LaRussa ran out some funky ass line-ups vs. the east...like he did not care if they won. Odd....you would think he cared about having the home field adv.

I'm usually conflicted when the Cards/Cubs play, but last nite there was no conflict. Cubs needed the sweep, and I thot they had the win. It was Holliday's 1st hit in I don't remember when to nail down the coffin.

My rediculas optimism is done for this year. (God, I don't want the Cubs to win the next 2 and draw me back in) See 'yall next year, God willing.

6 in the loss column behind Stl.

This is what I'm thinking, if you're gonna dream, dream big. They could be 4 GB and 3 in the loss column by the end of the weekend in the DIVISION.

I hope you had your tongue planted firmly in your cheek when you posted this.

Wait, didn't you already admit you were just a Cardinals fans "screwing with us?:

No Sir. The only time it was brought up I made my loyalties quite clear. You are thinking of another.

What the heck...

Cubs/Rockies have 26 games left, Cubs need to "go" 21-5 in them to tie after 162 games.

Cubs/Cardinals have 26 games left, Cubs need to "go" 23-3 in them to tie after 162 games.

Oh well. I remain unapologetic for being a little hopeful when they were only 4 back in the loss column a little while ago :)

The win last nite made me realize again how truly close we could have come to making the WC....IF we had beat the White Sox and the game after that as we should have 2 weeks back, and the Cardinals, who had not lost a series in over a month had not went 1 and 5 vs. Atl. and Fla and everything else had stayed the same, we would be ahead of them both right now and right in this thing.

A lot of if's, I know, but there really was a chance.

For all the griping and complaining, this was very nearly a playoff team.

In spite of the injuries, the drama, the disappointments, this will go down as a very decent, above .500, 2nd place team.

The standard has been raised, and I'm genuinely disappointed with this team, but does anyone remember when we would have been ecstatic about three straight winning seasons?

Posted

Yeah, let's all get down on ours knees and pray at the altar of Jim Hendry.

This team has more resources than all but four other teams in the league.

We should be "ecstatic that were this close"? Ditch the loser mentality, buddy.

Umm, he never said that. What's with the vitriol? He said he was disappointed with the team, and nothing about worshiping Jim Hendry. I don't get it. I hate this team right now as much as anyone, but nothing in his post was untrue (except "very decent," which is open to interpretation).

I guess I don't understand why anyone would hate the team. it isn't their fault that they missed a ton of games due to injury. Basically the only reason we aren't getting ready for the playoffs is because of a fluke injury to Aramis Ramirez.
