Who should be the new Cubs president? (Kenney Staying)

From Rosenbloom . . .

If the Cubs are going to try it again, the answer is pretty simple. It was the answer when MacPhail first came in and was looking for a general manager.

Steve Stone.

Nobody knew the National League better than Stone when MacPhail was brought in. The National League in that ballpark, certainly, after all his years of broadcasting Cubs games. And nobody knew the Cubs better.

It might be painful and a little time-consuming at first, but I believe Stone ultimately would build a baseball team, not a freak show.

I don't even know where to begin . . .

Kenney is staying...

http://sports.espn.go.com/chicago/news/story?id=4421661

Chicago Cubs chairman Crane Kenney has an agreement in place with Tom Ricketts to stay in his current capacity as the team is being sold by Tribune Co. to the Ricketts family, according to ESPN 1000.

He must have done a great job kissing ass during the negotiations, because I can't imagine one good reason why a new owner would want to retain Kenney, unless it's temporary.

The agreement is for multiple years, a source close to Kenney told the radio station.

If he's strictly working on the business end, I don't really care, but he shouldn't have any input on baseball decisions, including hiring the new GM.

I hope he doesn't have any input in the GM. However, I also don't want him working on the business end either. I don't mind making changes to Wrigley to better the team, but I can see Kenney envisioning some changes that are truly ridiculous.

Fan-Fricken-tastic! :banghead:

In my opinion, Rickett's is 0-for-1. I would rather Hendry stay than Kenney, by a long shot.

Why? Hendry affects players on the field. Kenney doesn't.

It may be that Kenney is being kept on b/c the intent is to let Hendry go. Continuity may be needed "at the top" in order to ensure an orderly transition, and replacing pretty much the entire front office might be more than Ricketts wishes to take on.

I also don't think Lou's job is necessarily safe.

Bernstein was suggesting yesterday that he's not buying that Lou wants to stay for next year...instead he thinks Lou is posturing to get "fired". Basically that he wants a buyout of at least a portion of his salary for next season. I could see that.

I remember an interview (I don't remember when or where) that I heard on the radio and while I don't remember all that was said, I remember thinking that I didn't want him anywhere near the Cubs. I know, not exactly a great argument, but I just know that I didn't like him then, and I doubt I would like him now.
